2004 Has been a Busy Year: from Mama Stork |
| News from the Institute |
|
Stork Exchange:
I am particularly pleased to see that, thanks to the hard work and
dedication of Pat Sonnenstuhl, our HypnoBirthing®
Stork, has once more taken wing. It's been a long time since
our newsletter was active--too long. Pat came to our rescue
when I lamented that there just weren't enough hours in the day or
days in the week to get the stork off the ground again.
She volunteered to take it over, and this wonderful start is the
first of what will be a regular, quarterly publication with news and
tidbits from the Institute. |
|
Please send us your contributions, and your
support through letters to the Stork:
hypnobirthing@hypnobirthing.com
We need your
suggestions and your spirit to shine through. If anyone is
willing to contribute regularly in certain departments by submitting
a health and fitness item, or some motivating editorial, or any
other category for each issue, we will gladly accept your help.
This is your newsletter, and it should reflect your thoughts.
Pat is willing to format, and I am willing to contribute, but the
content should come from the membership. Thank you Pat for
this revival. |

If you have not sent in
your renewal for 2004, as of January 1, your status will be
changed to "inactive," and your name will be taken from the Referral
Roster. You will not be able to continue to teach HypnoBirthing®.
In 2005, if your renewal is not
current after three months and two notices, we will, at that time,
drop your name from the roster and you will be considered
inactive. We know that many of you have intended to renew and
just have not done it. Please do it now. |

| "Don't
stop thinking about tomorrow--" |
|
This has been such an exciting year. I almost hate to see it
end, except for the inner feeling I have that next year will put us
so far over the top, our heads will spin. How can we top
this? |
|
We've had some of the best media coverage to date--starting in Early
Winter with TIME Magazine, Then NEWSWEEK, then BETTER HOMES AND
GARDENS, followed by the TODAY SHOW, then while we were in London,
thanks to Jenny Mullan,--THE RICHARD & JUDY SHOW. We are still
feeling the bump from all of these events. |
One of the big moments of
2004, of course, was the invitation from
Health Communications Inc., asking us to "allow" them the
privilege of publishing our textbook. In case you don't
know who HCI is--I didn't--they are publishers of the "Chicken Soup
for the Soul series. If all goes well, the book should
be on the bookshelves sometime in March. I hope you're ready
for the bump in calls. We are gearing up for it.
You'll see that in the new book, I have taken
what I call the Brutus approach. "I come not to praise Caesar,
but to bury him." Well you all know how that story went. In
the book, I do the reverse. I don't bury the medical community
for the things that need to change. I praise the medical
community for the things that we and our parents are experiencing
with care providers who are truly caring. Instead of giving a
litany of what we need to see, I've created an honor roll of what we
do see happening within hospitals and in medical offices that honor
the requests of parents and give support to the concept of normal,
natural birth. I throw roses to those in the medical
profession who listen and respect. |
| I am focusing only briefly on
what is, and devoting most of the work to thinking about what is
evolving and how it will be tomorrow. I spend a good many
words convincing the families that we will be working with that they
should settle for nothing less. I paint the dream and
challenge them to seek it. "It is not your job to be a good
patient; it is your job to be a good parent." That's what we
will be working toward--good parents having good birthings.

|
By the way--the theme for the 2005 Conclave is just that--"Don't
stop thinking about tomorrow." Bring your dreams and join us. |
|
The 2004
Conclave was well attended and the San Marcos
Resort was
lovely. At least 140 folks enjoyed the great programs and presentations.
There were many great highlights, too numerous to mention. Friday evening
HypnoBirthing® Educator
Suzanne Fremon now
living in Update New York gave us an hour
of inspiriting piano music. The Saturday evening Gala found many in
costume, and we enjoyed there the Vagina Monologues. Kudos to all of the
organizers of this special event. Tapes are still available if you weren't
able to attend. |
|
Things Are Looking Peachy at the Institute--A
new revised CD |
|
From now on when you receive your orders from the
HypnoBirthing Distribution Center, you will notice a new peachy and
silver label on the CDs and a new voice on the Birthing Affirmations
and Rainbow Relaxation. In an effort to keep new material
coming your way from time to time, Jessica Porter has lent her voice
and time to creating the new disk. The script is designed to
correlate with the colors of the chakra energy centers of the body.
The tapes will still be available for any of you who want them.
At the moment we are running about 50-50 on sales of tapes and
disks, so they will be around for as long as you need them.
