How much does a website cost?
It all depends on the size and complexity. See my Pricing page for details. Flash, gifs, and other graphic creations are additional.
Do links count as "pages"?
No, they're just links to other pages on other sites, and do not add to your page count or cost.
I don't understand the internet, can you guide me through what I have to do?
Of course. Most people don't understand the net, how it works, or how to start building a site. I'm here to make the entire process as easy as possible for you.
I want to get started on a site, what is the process?
Building a site is easy, but there is a bunch to do.
- Come up with your business name, if you haven't already.
- Decide a few choices for your URL (your dot-com name [which could also be .net, .org, etc]).
- See if your URL is available, and buy it. This will be about $9 per year.
- Purchase your hosting plan, or get space arranged through your ISP or Comcast account.
- Discuss with me your site concept and vision.
- Start sending me materials for your site. I will need all the text from you regarding your site. I don't know your business, and I'm not going to try guessing what you want to tell people on your site.
- Approve the main page's design once it's done. Most, if not all, of the other pages will be based on the home page design. Consistency between pages will help your readers, so getting the first one just right is crucial.
- Follow the site's progress at the non-public link that I give to you. Feel free to comment along the way.
- Determine when you want the site to go live for everyone.
How long will it take to create my website?
I can work about as fast as you can send material. At the most, you will have your site within 2-3 weeks of when I receive the final materials. Most likely, it will be much sooner because I'll be working on it as materials are sent. My record is 2 days for a full 5 page website.
How soon can we have our site online?
You can have it online as soon as you want. Some clients prefer to wait until it's 100% completed, while others like to have it up while we're still making continuous edits. It's your choice.
Will making a site be a lot of work for me?
Your site can only be as comprehensive as you make it. The more work you put in writing text, sending pictures, and finding relevant links the more your readers will thank you with their business.
Why aren't I near the top of the search engines?
Search engines are funny things. See the explanation. Additionally, you need to promote your own site. Put it on everything: invoices, stationery, envelopes, business cards, advertisements, billboards, hats, shirts, TV commercials, radio advertising, promotional materials, signage, other relevant websites, and anywhere else where it will be seen or heard.
I already have a site, can you update it for me?
Of course, we can discuss what you need and go from there. You will, of course, need the relevant ID's, IP's, and passwords.
Can I have a photo gallery?
Sure, the only thing to think about for a photo gallery, is how large you want the photos to be. The depending on size and quantity, the more hosting space you will need which could cost more. Most average photo galleries will fit within the average hosting package.
I know you're already very affordable, but how can I trim back on the cost even more?
If you have a comcast account, we can use your "home page" space. Each comcast customer gets 7 sub-accounts. We can have your site hosted there, and save you the $48 per year. Your site will be "masked", and your dot-com will lead people to your site within your comcast space.
Can I get email with my website?
Yes. Most hosting/URL plans come with email forwarding and/or email.
What are your payment terms?
I ask for 75% up front, and the remaining 25% when the site is live and completed to your liking. |
