Janet E. Smith, professor of philosophy at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, was formerly professor of philosophy at the University of Dallas. She holds her doctorate from the University of Toronto. She is a leading expositor and defender of the moral teaching of the church. She lectures widely in this country and abroad and is a consultant to the Pontifical Commission on the Family.
