Ralph McInerny has been a professor at Notre Dame since 1955. He directed the Medieval Institute for seven years and since 1979 he has been director of the Jacques Maritain Center. He has specialized in Thomistic philosophy and is a fellow of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. He has served as officer of many philosophical organizations and gave the Gifford Lectures at Glasgow in 1999.
