GOOD JUDGEMENT COMES FROM EXPERIENCE, AND OFTEN EXPERIENCE COMES FROM BAD JUDGEMENT.

-Rita Mae Brown

Individuals living with food allergies slowly acquire the skills required to survive and thrive. As individuals our way is sometimes fraught with a cycle of bad judgment and bad experiences. We believe that one way to break this cycle to use the shared wisdom of the local community as a resource. We seek a forum to share what we have learned and to learn from others. By sharing these experiences we hope to make living with food allergies more of a joy than a burden. If you share in this vision and want to find out more about a food allergy support group in Spokane, please contact us at the addresses or phone number listed below. If you know of other people that have food allergies please pass this information on to them as well.

A FEW OF THE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE HAVE IN MIND ARE:

1) A discussion with members of the School District 81 Food Allergy Task Force: What changes in school policy and procedures will the Task Force call for and how and when will they be implemented?

2) A discussion of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and how it can be used to protect the rights of individuals with food allergies.

3) What are the state-of-the-art treatments for food allergy? Is desensitization an option for food allergies? Do people outgrow food allergies or acquire new ones more frequently?

4) Some free time to talk, play & trade recipes in a safe environment.

5) Discussions with local counselors and/or psychiatrists about strategies for family emotional support in living with food-allergic members.

6) Research teams of volunteers might be created to find out which restaurants are safest for our food-allergic family members.
