Walleye - My favorite fish to chase. Jig fishing is my preferred method but I have been trying other methods with some success.

Fishing for Walleye on the Columbia River near Irrigon Oregon

The marina at Irrigon Oregon...not fishing related but a really cool picture.

Here are some pictures of the Spokane Arm of Lake Roosevelt

where I spend a majority of my time hunting Walleyes.

Steelhead - I've been fishing for these danged things off and on for 15 years and thanks to my good friend Mike, I finally caught my first one this year. We were bobber fishing at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers near Lewiston, ID

My First Steelhead...it's a keeper!!!

My buddy Mike....he always said his was bigger!

First Steelhead in my boat in the 2001 season...also Gary's first one!

Panfish - This is something I've always enjoyed. I guess I've never grown out of the "more is better" stage. Another plus is it's the one type of fishing I can get my wife and kids to do with me.

Saltwater - I was introduced to saltwater fishing in 2000 when I took a charter boat out of Neah Bay, WA to go halibut fishing. Although it was a LONG boat ride and the skipper was not a real people person, we had great success. In May 2001, I went to Ucluelet Bay on Vancouver Island in Canada with friends George and Frank. It was a beautiful area but we were too early for Halibut. We ended up catching some smaller salmon and saw a lot of great scenery and wildlife including a gray whale that played around our boat for quite some time. We chartered a boat with Island West Resort and they treated us very well.

Day one on the ocean...the perfect storm?

The Boat - Part of the fun of fishing is the fact that I get to go boating too. Our boat is a 1992 Spectrum model 1956. It is a 20' open bow aluminum fishing boat powered by a Chevrolet 3.0 liter 4 cylinder engine connected to a Mercruiser Alpha One outdrive. It is certainly not the fastest boat in the water, but it has a great cruising range and smooth, dry ride. I have been adding accessories and now have the following options: Eagle StrataView 128 and  Bottomline Tournament Pro fishfinders, Cannon Easytroll II downriggers, Scotty locking rod holders, Fentress rod rack, Mercury 15 HP long shaft kicker motor, and a Minkota powerdrive electric bow mount trolling motor. I also use a Garmin GPS and Humminbird VHF radio.

The Old Truck - This was the first family 4X4. It has since been replaced by a newer version of the same truck. New picture below.....

The new Pickup....2003 Ford F350 4X4 crew cab long box, 7.3L Powerstroke diesel. Picture taken at Bessemer Bend Wyoming at the site that the Oregon Trail crossed the North Platte river 20 miles west of Casper.

Here's a picture of me and Chris at Fort Spokane after a successful day of fishing in early June 2006.
