It has been years since I've seen you Kirsten, and although I haven't met your children, this website -- and a network of caring friends -- is a window into how loved you all are. I can only imagine how difficult it must be just to share your story, much less live it. But it does put you in many, many people's prayers and that is a truly powerful thing. We will be praying specifically for your strength, your doctors' wisdom, and for your children to feel comfort, safety and love.

Dear Olsen Family,
Your story was forwarded to me as we are part of the West Linn Youth Football program. In addition, we are members of Our Lady of the Lake
Church and my son is Pizza Schmizza-addicted, so our families lives overlap in lots of little ways.  I'd just like for you to know that my family will be thinking of and praying for you all. We have a 9 year old boy and a newborn (a 4 month old boy) and can not begin to imagine all that you are experiencing. I want you to know that your story will serve to remind this family of our many blessings and that we can learn a greater appreciation of all the things we take for granted each day. Our efforts at trying "not to sweat the small stuff" will be bolstered by knowing what you all face each day. This is how we will try to honor your courage in the face of such challenge.

May God bless and keep each of you, Ann Hall

Ian, Kirsten, Bradon, Taylor and Graham,

I visited your website last night and am not sure that anything I could say would be an adequate expression of what I felt for your family. You all will be in my daily prayers and I hope and pray you find comfort in your faith as you continue through this experience. I may be across the country, but if there is ANYTHING at all I can do, outside of prayer, here or in Oregon, do not hesitate to ask. It is obvious from your guestbook that you don't have a shortage of friends and family who love and support you, but please count me in as one more. I will be visiting the site regularly to keep current and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Ian, Kirsten and family,
I hope the operation was successful. It is amazing how resilent kids are and how they adapt to almost any situation. Hey I think we all need to take a lesson from that. Both my sons had minor operations at around 15 months and bounced back quickly and at 2 and 5 dont remember a thing. I pray for you daily that God continues to give you the strength you need to get through this. I thought of you guys this weekend when I was in NYC, maybe you can get out here sometime and show the kids the big Apple!!! Let me know if you do and we can meet up!
Well take care, be strong and God Bless to you all.

Happy "shared" birthday Kirsten. :) I just talked with your Dad today and he brought me up to date on the twins. Kelly and my hearts and prayers are with you and Ian. I can HONESTLY understand what you are going through after recently losing my Dad to cancer and the pain of having someone you love so much unjustly taken from you. It absolutely tears your heart apart trying to understand why life can be so unfair and cruel. It has taken me years to get over losing my Dad, and you and Ian will need to rely on each other, your GREAT family and friends to cope with what you're going through. Our thoughts will always be with you and PLEASE feel free to bug me at ANY time to lend an ear or help out in any way.

It takes amazing strength to endure what you all are faced with. Having said that... what a beautiful family you have. I am so amazed at your grace and courage. It has been so long since we have lived in the Portland area, but recently I have heard of your situation and wanted you to know that we are praying for you from afar. I have worked with families that are faced with unbearable diagnoses for their children and watched as they endured it all with the kind of stamina and dignity one can only imagine. The strength comes as you need it. Believe that your angels will guide you. I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts. Stacey and Dave Hermance

Dear Olsons,
I have always loved the time I have spent with your family. Watching Braden, Taylor and Graham grow up has been so much fun. A priest who used to teach me at Jesuit told me before my neuro-surgery that often times when someone is sick people focus on the outward changes taking place when in fact the most significant and profound changes are the ones that occur inwardly to the person experiencing the illness. I found this to be true when I was sick, and I think about that with Taylor and Graham and what they must be experiencing and how strong their little spirits are becoming. I know that they inspire us all.
Much love,
Elizabeth Holloway

I just found out about your family's trials with your twins. Please know that we are committed to pray for complete healing. I wanted to share a few Scriptures with you that came to mind . . .
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7
"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to {His} purpose."
Romans 8:28
I also pray that God will show His love to you as only He can during a time like this.

We just know there is a rousing chorus of prayers going God's direction every day in your name. A prayer of thanks will go out today regarding Braden's positive test results! We will keep posted to see how we can help--if there is anything spur-of-the-moment that neighbors can help out with, please let us know. Kirsten and Ian--when I brought the food by the other day, Ian's mom invited me in and I got a chance to see Braden, Taylor and Graham. Friends were holding Taylor and Graham as they rested peacefully, after long bouts of crying. I felt a very special presence there--something very special and loving going in, even in the midst of all your crisis and heartbreak. May you find comfort in that, even though I know it must be hard to see and feel when the heartache runs so deep. Know you are in our prayers,

I will be praying for you all everyday!

Having been far out on the fringes of your family for many years, it was particularly wonderful to run into all of you a few weeks ago in front of Wild Oats on NE 15th Avenue. The children are so sweet, so open, so loving. I will always remember Taylor reaching out to touch. They are both such gentle spirits. They and you have deeply touched my daughter and have thus become a significant part of my own reflection. I wish you great strength, the kind that is open, receptive, and filled with peace. May your constant meditation be one of love and beauty. I too will try to remember this in honor of Taylor and Graham.

Hi - my husband Ted and I are childhood friends of Bruce Bailey -
Ted and Bruce were in each other's wedding and used to have Christmas decorating contests in high school. I was at the shower that Claudia Bailey had for Alison and met Kirsten there. We've heard about your family from the time Braeden was born (our grandson turned 4 in September and grandaughter turns 3 in February), and have enjoyed all the cute stories passed along by Claudia and Bruce and Judy.

We are heartsick to learn of the illness of your precious twins; we are grateful that Braeden does not have the disease. We understand the need to enjoy and savor each moment together to build memories - our first child died at 13 months. Thank you for inviting us along on your journey. This website is a blessing by allowing us to reach out without invading. Thank you and God bless.

Kirsten, Don't know if you remember me, but I am Jenny's big sis from the sorority. She told me about your children and I am so very hopeful that you all are doing well. Ted and I have suffered the loss of a child and that is why I am writing you.
Our circumstances are completely different and I pray that any day now, God will help us find a cure for your babies and all people diagnosed with MLD. I want you to know that you can contact me if you need a friend because I have been through the day to day struggles of taking care of the house, another child and husband and juggling the roller coaster of doctors and hospitals.
Your kids are BEAUTIFUL and I am sure that with all of the prayer support and friends, we'll find a cure soon!

I've always thought it was awesome how much love Taylor and Graham demonstrate for each other. Pointing to the others crib in concern when they'd wake up from their naps and calling out "Bubba???" or "Tay Tay?"... don't forget my other half! Twins are such a blessing--those little guys are a part of my heart. I can hardly wait to see everyone on Thanksgiving--I realize more than ever how thankful I am to have you all in my life.
You demonstrate what a family should be--a community of love, kindness, and generosity.

Love & Aloha,
your Emmy

Hello my name is Bill. I am fellow student of Josh and share a July 16 birthday with taylor and graham. I want to thank you for sharing your story. It may seems akward to some, but to me it is a gift. In a world where disease and tradgey are conveyed by statistics we lose sight of the human element. Your story makes me feel a little more human in sharing the pain of your loss and the courage of your love. I will take this with me to cheerish the company of family and friends a little more. My hope for you is that the love and joy are able to keep their place next to the pain and sadness.

I am a friend of Josh's. My name is Dani Leis ("leece"), and I am the volunteer coordinator at Outside In where Josh was such a strong support to our youth and our agency staff.
My heart goes out to you all. My own daughter, 19, was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma when she was 15, but thankfully is now in remission. I understand how challenging it is to watch your own child suffer. During that time I personally found access to previously unkown reservoirs of strength and compassion when faced with these challenges. I will hope the same for you.
I will keep your family in my prayers and will pray for the power of love to sustain all of you.
If there is anything I can do, you have only to say it. Josh can get in touch with me, or you may call my mobile phone at 971-645-8528.

Blessed be,   Leis

I thank Josh for sharing this site, that is so personal to him and to his family, with those of us who have just met him at Bainbridge Graduate Institute. Reading this story, having known just a little of what the situation was for Josh at home, helps to broaden my knowledge and helps me to be a more informed supporter of him as he supports all of you.

My thoughts are with you all,

You have lovely children and they are very lucky to have such a loving, attentive family. God bless you all.

Dear Kirsten and Ian,
I am writing for Peter and Ivan (former students of Kirsten's) and myself. Your love as a family is evident in every part of this website. Thank you for sharing that with us.
Peter is a junior and Ivan in 8th grade and together (or alone), the three of us make a great baby sitting team. And our price is very reasonable - free. We would be delighted to help you out whenever you like. Please, please call us. When we were in need, others helped us and it is a gift to be able to pay it forward.

Our prayers and love are with you, Aleka, Peter and Ivan

Ian / Kirsten

What a beautiful family you have!!
It's so hard to know what to say, or how to express our feelings about what you must be going through. Having been through an experience like yours (sort of) with the passing of our unborn son, Jos and I know no words can make the pain any easier. But we've found the experience brought us closer together. It is so hard to see why things happen as they do, but there truly are blessings and lessons found that can only be seen with the passing of time. Ian, the conversations we've had about your family have left me so impressed with your strength, how you're dealing with it, and it has clearly made you a stronger person.. little solace and a time like this, but I wanted you to know that.
You all are in our prayers.

Kirk and Jos
