  BEGINNING BRIDGE -- 6-week series beginning in September and late January.

Discover the fun and lifelong benefits of the world's most popular card game in a play-as-you-learn atmosphere. In this quick-start class, you'll learn basics of Standard American bidding and be playing -- and improving your memory and reasoning skills -- the first night. The class is designed for those who have never played bridge, but is also open to current players who would like a beginner-oriented review of the basics. A book (Bridge for Beginners and Beyond) will be available for a nominal charge.

  INTERMEDIATE BRIDGE  -- 4-week series beginning in September and February.

Build on the basics, tune up your skills and learn new tricks in this class for advanced beginners and intermediate-level players. Each class will begin with a lesson to help you improve your bridge skills, followed by play with at-the-table coaching. You'll also have the option to join other local players in the weekly duplicate bridge game (7:00-10:00 pm), which offers the chance to win official masterpoints from the American Contract Bridge League. Lessons will cover topics chosen by class members. A book (Bridge for Beginners and Beyond) will be available for a nominal charge.

  FALL BRIDGE WEEKEND -- 2-day workshop in October or November

A weekend of lessons, practice sessions and sectional-rated duplicate games for intermediate and advanced players. Information on last year's Fall Bridge Weekend is here. The dates and schedule for the 2009 weekend will be posted here when available.

Private Lessons -- available year-round

In addition to group classes, private bridge lessons -- on any topic, for any skill level -- can be set up for individuals and groups. A wide variety of learning opportunities are available, including:

• Bridge workshops and lessons. Any number of sessions can be arranged to fit your interests and schedule.

• Playing lessons with the instructor as your partner.

• Teaching books for beginning and intermediate players.

• Bridge parties at your home, club or meeting place. You can set up your party to include an entertaining, informative lesson on your choice of topic, a question-and-answer session, and/or a full duplicate game for pairs or teams. Reasonably priced meeting facilities can also be arranged for your party at Bridge at Ginger Creek in Champaign.

Instructor:  Private lessons are taught by Karen Walker, an American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) national champion and Diamond Life Master with over 7000 masterpoints. An ACBL-certified director and teacher, she has more than 30 years' experience teaching bridge in the Champaign-Urbana area.
