Oh so much to update with oh so little time.
You all have no idea how exciting it is to watch a demolition derby when you know someone who is 'racing' in it. My brother's good friend Jeff decided out of the blue to buy a crap car and enter the deby. It was Jeff in his 1990 Cavalier vs. the rest of the 70s Lincolns and Bonnevilles. It was so great I nearly lost my voice.
White trash abounds at the 4h Fair.
Jeff won and the guy he beat complained and cried so the judges took away Jeff's trophy and gave it to Mr. Grease Mullet.
I did not take pictures, however, because my camera was nowhere to be found. Deep sigh.

Just takin time out - thinking about a few things.
I read something earlier that got me going. Not so much in a bad way as in a more 'curiouser' way. It was mentioned that if you only have one comment in your comment system, the person tends to think you're a bit of a loser.
So, immediately I think of my stupid comments and how I'm lucky if I get one comment that's not from Marcus (my trusty Canuck friend). Now. I don't really feel all that bad about it. I know how many people read my journal each day...it's not too shabby. But, most importantly, I don't think people need to have something to say about everything I write - even if part of me wants a goddamned comment now and then (hint hint). I don't really write this for you so much as I do because I can't remember half the shit I do and it's nice to go back and read things...and it helps me write.
I feel sort of all zen about this. Ordinarily, I would have lost my shit and felt horrible and said to myself "oh everyone thinks your a big old loser - you suck!". But you know what? So what. It's really comforting. At least for right now. So what if I am a loser. My mom thinks I'm cool.

I apologize for my lack of posting.
I have been extremely busy at work and with my writers group, it's hard for me to keep up.
I have received a hit from a guy over at Small Stories and he's pretty interesting.
Take a look...

I am back.
Two weeks with my parents, though how I love them, is just a bit long.
I saw:
House on the Rock
Wisconsin Dells
Corn Palace
Wall Drug
Cosmos Mystery Spot
Bear County USA
Mt. Rushmore
Yellowstone
Denver
Some cool mines in Colorado that I found on my own
The worlds largest truck stop on I-80
the great and glorious sight of home, home, home.
Some observations:
My favorite state to sleep in was South Dakota.
West Yellowstone, Montana is like 90 degrees during the day and 35 degrees at night.
I saw 30 times as many elk and deer as I did buffalo
My new favorite bird is the Raven (because they are seriously the size of turkeys.)
I took approximately 250 pictures
The best campsite we stayed at was one that was in Geneseo, Illinois, just over the border from Iowa....a campsite we didn't plan on staying at, one we found at the last minute.
Apparently a spider or a mosquito was trapped in my shirt over night on the last night because my entire stomach area is covered with bites.
ouch.
Sad news:
My degus died while we were gone. It apparently got over 100 degrees here and the apartment is poorly suited to handle high temperatures. Our neighbor, the one who was watching the house, had turned on both air conditioners and the fan, and it was still 89 degrees in the apartment. Degus are mountain dwellers and can not handle heat.
There wasn't anything that the guy could have done.
Maybe, put them in front of the fan.
I don't know.
I'm sleepy now, though. Gonna go relax.
What is it about a long trip that makes you feel like you haven't relaxed at all?
