Bummed
Well I'm kind of bummed.
I visit alot of web sites. Left, right, and center.
Today I visited a few and couldn't help but wonder why on Earth they would back Bush so much.
Now lets say for a moment I could understand sticking by a party. Party loyalty. But that removed and I still have to wonder and ask. I mean why exactly is it so many sites refuse to acknowledge the truth?
Now don't believe I buy into everything spouted by every left wing site out there. I look into things that seem exceptional, and try and fact check them with more than a few sources. Even then I'm sure I sometimes miss the mark. But why?
Why are these people who could possibly share a beach, or a beer, or a conversation, fighting so much? Can't they see that the person they are backing and defending isn't worth their efforts?
And quite a few on the right believe Kerry is soft on war, or terrorism. That George Bush will stand up and fight when it needs doing. But Bush really doesn't run the show anyways. And the same will hold true for Kerry. We will still be fighting wars around the globe. Many of them we will never publically acknowledge are wars. But it will continue. No matter who's in office.
And having someone in office who mouths slogans and soundbytes instead of leveling with the American public isn't something we need. Perhaps it's time for a bit more truth in government. Something I feel is lacking in Bush's administration.
And I go back to being a bit sad. Because when I visit web sites both right and left, I see hurtful words directed at the familys of the candidates. I read how Republicans are slamming Democrats, and Democrats slamming Republicans, and each calling the other fat, stupid, evil, greedy, cowards, girlie men, and a plethora of other nasty names.
You see I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And seldom does it fall from the tounge of a politician. Worse yet I believe both right and left have many of the same ideas. Both with very similar visions of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And it's through events such as elections we get drawn into an us against them mind set. Lead like bulls by the nose we are dragged into a place where we are easier to control.
I don't know about the rest of you but I take being controlled badly. I believe we should pay taxes. That if you're filthy rich you should pay filthy rich taxes. That if you and your accountant find ways to cheat the tax codes you aren't exploiting loopholes but breaking the law.
I also believe that abortion is a personal matter between God and the person who's having one. Government has no buisness making moral decisions for us. If you are a Christain, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddist, or any number of religions which may or may not agree or disagree with abortion, then you shouldn't have one. And you should advise family and friends not to have one. But there are people who do not share your belief. If this is indeed the land of the free, as in religious freedom, then how can we allow laws based on religious tenents? How exactly different then are we from the mullahs?
I believe we should keep American jobs for Americans. That we should work and worry more about our own economy rather than other countries. That as we become richer in the world we should buy up whole countries. Our flag has had fifty stars for to amny years. It's time to start adding more. I also believe that big buisness has changed the economic future of the world. We should pass laws in favor of people rather than buisness.
If a company wishes to sell a product to Americans they should also be willing to treat employees properly. Because human dignity is often tied into a good job that treats the employee well. This is tied into how the employee acts when they leave work. When they have extra money in their pockets they spend it on things they need or entertainment. The money travels back up through the system. Stockholders make money because people are buying because they have money. Companys make money because they are selling. The government makes taxes to help fund the infrastructure of our nation.
But give the money to the rich and they most often roll it into stocks or bonds. Mutual funds offering a fair slow return and a worry free retirement more appealing than spending the wad buying the latest car designed to fall apart. And the money trickles no where.
And I hear of this desire to privatize Social Security. How the plan is to sink the money into the stock market. And there are those who pay in that have alot of money who would benefit. They could bury it in the portfolios they already own. But the working stiff, the service industry people who greased the wheels of this country with their sweat and blood. They would be the Enrons of the Social Security trading world. Thousands of scams would develop overnight seeking to trick the foolish and elderly into investing here or there. And they would lose their money to some group so buried in paper that no one would go to jail. The same people that Social Security was designed to protect will lose the most. The richest who don't need it will benefit the most.
I was always taught to try and help those who need it. If you see someone who needs help try if it's in your power. But something about privatizing Social Security seems to be doing the reverse. It feels like one is helping the rich out with money that was intended for the poor. The same poor who often worked their full lives making sure America ran smoothly. The same ones who worked and bought products that helped make the rich, rich.
I'm not going out of my way trying to bash Bush here folks. Something about Bush and his whole agenda feels wrong. It feels like he's screwing, for a better word, America. First he's starting with the working stiffs and the grunts. The National Guardsmen, and the labor of our country. Then he gets the teachers, the techs, the middle management. And you have to wonder how long before the rich take the boot?
But it's still no excuse to call his wife names. To suggest his daughters are less than human because they engage in some of the same drinking games you have. Nor to call Kerry's daugters sluts. To call his wife names. To pull out picture after picture for no other reason than to ridicule. I mean does this kindergarten trick still work? Will ridiculing your opponent and their family really make others believe you're right?
And Kerry drew a check and showed up seldom. Have I any doubts? No. I believe it. The ticks tend to gather closest to the blood. They ride up high on the dogs back because it's harder to dislodge them there. But will he do any worse than Bush? Really? Because I see so many on the internet proclaiming he will do so much worse than Bush. And what's scary about that is we all know Bush did really bad. Much worse could be the end of us all. So in other words "four more years" of really bad, because Kerry "might" be much worse. Not sure about you folks but I'd rather take the chance on "might". I'm not quite sure we can take "four more years" of really bad.
But from a biblical standpoint one really shouldn't care about any of this crap anyways. It's just that. Crap. The humans trying their best to prove they can work things out, destined to fail. The beast in full swing. And the idiot masses bowing before his great and wonderful might. Hero worship scares some of us Christians.
That's another thing that makes me sad. Both sides rushing to defend their hero. Both sides so desperate for a real one that they'll settle for the false ones supplied. It saddens me that America has become so desperate. Liek watching an old friends downfall. Knowing even as you try, that there's nothing you can do to change course.
