Burn Out

"With so many right-wing shams to choose from, it's simply too daunting for the average, left-leaning citizen to maintain a sense of anger," said Rachel Neas, the study's director. "By our estimation, roughly 70 percent of liberals are experiencing some degree of lethargy resulting from a glut of civil-liberties abuses, education funding cuts, and exorbitant military expenditures."

Whoa!

So thats what I've been felling lately.

Sure I work really hard in the hot Florida sun.

Sure I swill monstrous amounts of beer.

Sure I keep late hours working at the task of blogging.

But thats just doesn't explain it. Those things don't explain the apathy that inflicts me.

And the words on Oliver's blog struck a chord. Struck home. Hit the nail on the head. Got to the root of the problem. Really they did.

I mean how long can the average person immerse themselves in the foulness of politics before they just start feeling slimy? How long before the continuing adventures of Curious George just crush you? They keep doing shit and no one is doing anything to stop them.

The media gets paid to do this. They have off hours. Average bloggers have regualr blogs and spend additional time to blog. They start at the disadvantage of exhaustion to beging with. Added to that they take in vast amounts of information so as to be up to date. Eventually all that stuff crammed into their brains has to leak out somewhere.

That might explain my incoherant babblings about Bush being the antiChrist at work, but probably not. It could explain why I've given up on my fellow Americans as sheep being led to slaughter. Again probably not. But it definately explains why I stopped dealing exclusively with politics. There isn't any way to change our current system until we can freely vote for a real American rather than a goon controlled by special interest.

But lucky me I snap back quickly, and during my small lapses theres plenty of other bloggers out there willing to keep the heat on Washington. Plenty of people checking the fine print. But alas have we any say in midnight votes? Can we change anything when they bend the rules and the law whenever they see fit?

And being slightly curious about what the law says about free elections and postponing elections due to terrorist actions I have this to say. Sure they can do it but it requires ignoring the rule of law and the Constitution. So while I can feel safe to sleep tonight. Safe in the knowledge that legally they can't do this. My tired apathetic side pops up it's worn out self and mentions quietly in my ear. "Have they shown like they give a rat's ass about the Constitution thus far?"

Great! Now I'm not gonna be able to sleep. Lucky me. The informed. The tired. The burned out. Too tired to be mad. Too tired to care what they do. But not too tired to pray that God gives em a good whack or two for being what they are. And after that nice little prayer I fall into an exhausted slumber broken by an alarm clock a few hours later calling me back out into the Florida sun.

Okay who do I think I'm fooling. Usually I throw together my blog with spit and rubberbands, then drink enough beer that I can pass out without yelling profanity at the news on TV. Tonight Fox is on. Gonna need more beer.
