Busyness. How to spot a successful buisness. Usually the customers, and size of their building along with location, and how often they build newer areas. These are usally a sign of a prosperous buisness. How so then the criminal justice system. The jails. The police. The laws. If they are truly successful aren't they in reverse? A jail, and police force should have less criminals, instead of more. Good wise and just laws protect the people, and would lead to fewer people in prisons and fewer criminals. Why is it then that all our jails are getting full? That more of our people are being jailed? Is this a sign of their success? Does this show they are doing a good job? Somewhere, someone has made the incorrect assumption that more means better. When we all know this isn't a correct assuption. If your job entails getting rid of something, and you end up with more than what you started with you have to question the contractor. But how can this be happening in this day of smaller government with less interference into peoples personal lives? We have a Republican president. A Republican House, and Senate. They are the party of smaller government with less intrusion into personal lives. The party that fights for freedom, and the constitution. Or not. Right wing agendas that have been funneling large amounts of cash to the law makers of this country have many of them convinced that most Americans have a right wing agenda as well. Or at least the ones with money. They stand firm. Jaws thrust out telling you the voter they won't go soft on crime. We all envision rapist and murderers doing all their time instead of getting out. They envision more votes. Fact bears out more plain average people in jail for longer amounts of time for crimes that at best can be called moral judgements. How do we change this? How do we change a system that no longer listens to it's people, but to polls, and lobbyist. That has turned a deaf ear to the masses, while opening it's bank boxes to folks who bend the constitution to a religious viewpoint. As a religious person I am appalled we have given up our freedoms. It was to escape harse unjust persecution many came to this country. Those early folks wanted to be allowed to beleieve as they saw fit, and not be forced to do otherwise. They included all religions by excluding all religions. You owe your fealty to GOD as you see fit, but you live in this country and its against the law to kill your neighbor because he is of another faith-opinion. So we are failing. Failing as a country that upholds the freedoms of the people. Those in charge deny its happening. Instead pointing to charts and graphs showing how well things are. Yet everyone knows they aren't that good. When will the people send someone forward that says it loud enough for all to hear. "The Emperorer has no clothes." What messages do we send our youth? We tell them they are free. Yet government passes law after law denying them the chance to be idiots. To make mistakes. To live life. Sure people die. Do you see the government passing laws against guns? People die from guns all the time. Wheres the outrage? Its buried under the "They vote and have a huge lobby." pile. Car makers fail to make safety standards. Want to bet they have money to buy off those folks who could blackmail them by moving their organizations against them. For it has no better name than blackmail or extortion. The people. The real people. We have no lobby. We are allowed to vote. Maybe. So our only tool, our best recourse, is voting. But the voters become disenfranchised when the two party system seems to perpetually turn out identical candidates. They eat at the same restaurants. Wear the same style clothes. Are bought and paid off by the same lobbyist. They send their kids to the same schools. Yet to hear them you would think they are enemies. That they fight the noble fight on our behalf. So if bigger is better. If more shows success. Well then. Our jails are doing great. Our National Debt is to be envied. Or Government is tops. Laws work. Poor people are lucky duckys. Homelessness is an attractive lifestyle enjoyed by the fortunate elect. Hunger is a great diet fad. Having no insurance is a good thing. Expensive drugs show we are well off finacially. And companies who want to make millions for CEO's at the expense of Americans a trend that should be emulated. God help us all. They are driving this country and the world straight to hell. Don't get me wrong. I'm not naming which GOD, or which hell. The fact we are all headed that way under the wise counsel of this current batch of world leaders is reason enough to make anyone find time for a prayer to their deity. Me? I used to get drunk to avoid these tough questions. But they kinda made that illegal too. ![]() |
