Copied Summer 1962 by J. Scott & M. Meyers
Transcribed by Douglas J. Ingalls, October 16, 1998

Additional from “The Old Town and Cemetery,” written for the Utica Press by DeWitt C. Haddock, June 1, 1905.

Apparently the cemetery at that time was overgrown and not maintained. In his article
on the cemetery he mentions some of the people buried there.

Some of the names listed which are not seen on later readings:

“…Crapeau, a rich Frenchman who died in 1832 of cholera, while on his way to Detroit.
His grave is also lost, and there was never any stone to mark the spot.

“On a little stone in the old part is the story of a Revolutionary
soldier who fought in the battle Lexington.”

“…Jacob Bovee. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, fought in the
	battle of Lundy’s Lane.

“A small, cheap stone marked the grave of John Barnard. He was the captain of
the first packet boat on the Erie Canal that ran from Rome to Cassett’s Corners,
	now Syracuse.”
