Our Medical Men
By C. M. DeForest, M. D.
From every town and city in Madison county members of the medical
profession went forth in answer to the call of their country. Many with
families, and almost without exception beyond draft age, sacrificed
their practice to join the service.
Their record has been a glorious one. Days and nights of gruelling toil
in
dressing stations and hospitals that were nothing but a shambles, weary
rounds in wards, devoted care of the sick and wounded--this is the
record of our physicians.
A few of them were fortunate enough to be sent with our soldiers to
France and they have established for themselves and for their country an
enviable record. Following are the names of those in Madison county who
were in military service:
Lieut. C. S. Goodwin, Bridgeport
Capt. S. T. Barton, Canastota
Lt.-Col. C. M. DeForest, Canastota
Capt. H. G. Germer, Canastota
Capt. E. C. Holden, Canastota
Lieut. F. D. Keppel, Cazenovia
Lieut. W. W. Woglum, DeRuyter
Capt. L. C. Beebe, Hamilton
Capt. G. W. Wilcox, Hamilton
Lieut. A. J. Forward, Madison
Major R. L. Crockett, Oneida
Capt. G. F. Mills, Oneida
Lieut. Otto Pfaff, Oneida
Lieut. C. D. Oatman, Poolville |
