Gibson/Ingalls

Samuel and Tabytha (Kennedy) Gibson had 12 children. Three of their children were wed to children of Israel Ingalls and his wife, Mary Lord Ingalls:

Daviess Gibson/Saphonia Ingalls
Eleanor Gibson/Arthur Ingalls
Delilah Gibson/Joseph Wellington Ingalls

Samuel Gibson with six married children, their inlaws and some other families left for Oregon early in 1852. There were many privations, many deaths from cholera. A book was written "Crossing the Plains" by one of Samuel Gibson’s descendants, Edith Starbuck. It is the memoirs of her grandmother, Almira Gibson, giving an interesting and graphic account of that Oregon trip. Samuel died on the way to Oregon on June 8, 1852.

SAMUEL GIBSON, son of Guyon Gibson (Revolutionary War soldier)  and Eleanor Kennedy. Born Feb. 12, 1780 in S.C. Married Tabytha Kennedy Mar. 11, 1802 in S.C. Therefore Thomas Kennedy was brother-in-law to Samuel Gibson, and became his father-in-law. Samuel Gibson moved from S.C. between 1802 and 1807. He then went to Missouri about 1808 with the Thomas Kennedy family. In 1812 S. Gibson raised a company to fight for their families and homes, and this company became the 3rd Company in Col.
