Family history newsletter started in 1984 for the purpose of sharing information on the surnames INGALLS, INGALL, INGELL, INGLES, INGLIES, INGLE, ENGEL, and variant spellings. Published by Arlene Ingalls Schrader . . .
Received a note from Diane Ingalls Hughes, NY, re the August 13, 1988 reunion of descendants of James Parshall Ingalls. "A big hit with everyone was the chart I compiled listing (on 10 feet of paper) the nearly 130 direct descendants of Alphonso (my great-grandfather). I did it ahead of time with the family sheets I had completed in 1985. I was pleased to get at least 10 additions during the reunion as everyone checked to see if they were there.
"We had games and prizes for the children. My sister, Denise Ingalls Bodie, made a piñata which I think we may make a tradition. We filled it with inexpensive pencils, erasers and whistles and of course, healthy snacks like small boxes of raisins and fruit drops.
"The old timers enjoyed the afternoon just catching up on news. There was a great discussion as to which number this reunion was. I say 44th official, because I have all the old books of minutes of meetings from 1922-1969 with time off for WWII and counting last years (1987). People who were present in 1922 argued that there were some before that but I have a clipping that lists those present and the writing beneath it indicates the founders, etc. I am enclosing a copy for you.
"Since I started this letter I just found out a recent death - enclosed is a copy of the obituary. Eugene Palumbo died September 4 (see obit). He was at the reunion. and had a great time reminiscing. I think this is one important reason for reunions. You get to see old friends and it's not at a funeral. We can all remember the happy times."

The following officers were elected: president, Mrs. Albert Ingalls; secretary, Mrs. Clifford Ingalls; treasurer, Clarence Ingalls. He doesn't dump on Broome
Man takes recycling seriously
Wallace Ingalls is doing his part to curb the Southern Tier's trash crisis, by not just leaving his trash at the curb.
For as long as he can remember, the 78-year-old Endwell man has kept his trash out of landfills by recycling it. "Garbage is going to be a bigger problem as time goes by," he said. "We need to make more dump space by cutting down on the amount of trash."
Ingalls saves newspapers, glass containers, aluminum foil and tin cans for recycling. He has started to save plastics and hopes a market opens soon.
The job requires only a few minutes of work per day removing labels and cleaning bottles and cans, he said. At his Hall Street home, a basement corner houses several paper grocery bags filled :with the sorted trash.
Every few months he takes the items to local recycling centers such as the Broome County Recycling Project's Endicott plant and Peter Peter Paper Eater.
"Back when I was a kid (in Providence, R.I.) people used to come around with a handcart and collect aluminum and rags," he said. "Today people say, ‘ah, we'll just put it out to the trash.'"
Though he is in favor of the proposed incinerator project, Ingalls voiced concern about pollution, especially fumes from plastics.
"They shouldn't burn things that will pollute too much," he said. "I'm just saving it in hopes they'll do something with it someday.”

Professor Clyde E. Ingalls of Cornell University outlines a problem during
recent Transistor Training Class. (photo omitted)
Program Being Conducted by Cornell Professor
Transistor Training Trend of the Times
Professor Clyde E. Ingalls of the School of Electrical Engineering, Cornell University, is currently conducting a Transistor Training Program for engineering personnel at Scintilla.
Indicative of a trend toward transistor usage in certain Scintilla products, the new training program was set up to better acquaint Scintilla personnel with the theory and applications of transistors. Arrangements were made with Cornell for Prof. Ingalls, who is an authority in the field, to conduct a series of eight 4-hour sessions.
Opening session of the program was held on Friday, August 16, and was inaugurated by Walter J. Spengler, director of engineering. The program is being coordinated by Tullio Fognola, chief research engineer.
The program is devoted equally to theory and applications, with particular emphasis being given to transistor applications in Scintilla products.
Twenty-five members of the Engineering Dept. are enrolled in the program, sessions of which are held each Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Training Center.

SEARCH & RESEARCH
What causes one to search, and to go
Looking for kin we never did know?
The people are many . . . not merely a few.
Where did they live? What did they do?
It's not a quest for royalty or fame . . .
But things in general about a name.
What matters of interest can we unfold
Of beliefs that they had . . or what did they hold?
What tracks did they make on this tricked old earth?
That mortals like us could measure in worth?
Whatever they had . . . they left it behind
For people like me . . . to endeavor to find!

Need information on parents, siblings of EDWARD L. INGALLS b 17 February 1856 married Irene Lee about 1874. Thought to have lived in New York and later in Illinois. He died in 1941 having lived most of his around Grubville and Moselle, MO as a farmer and for awhile as a storekeeper.

Specialist Fourth Class George Alan INGALLS, U.S. Army, Co. A 2nd Battalion, 5th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division (Air Mobile) near Duc Pho, Republic of Vietnam, 16th April 1967. Born 9 March 1946 Hanford, CA. (Citation) For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. SP4C INGALLS a member of Co A. accompanied his squad on a night ambush mission. Shortly after the ambush was established, an enemy soldier entered the killing zone and was shot when he tried to evade capture. Other enemy soldiers were expected to enter the area, and the ambush was maintained in the same location. Two quiet hours passed without incident, then suddenly a hand grenade was thrown from the nearby dense undergrowth into the center of the squad's position. The grenade did not explode, but shortly thereafter a second grenade landed directly between Sp4C INGALLS and a nearby comrade. Although he could have jumped to a safe position, Sp4C INGALLS in a spontaneous act of great courage, threw himself on the grenade and absorbed its full blast. The explosion mortally wounded Sp4C INGALLS, but his heroic action saved the lives of the remaining members of his squad. His gallantry and selfless devotion to his comrades are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Military Service and reflects great credit upon Sp4C INGALLS, his unit, and the U.S. Army.
Seeking parents' names of George Alan Ingalls and any other genealogical information that may be available.

From the Editor....AIS
The supplemental genealogy update is moving forward!
If you have not completed your family group sheets, or have changes/corrections/additions, please send them to Linda Wright . . .or Arlene Ingalls Schrader, . . . as soon as possible. We want to include everyone in this first supplement to Charles Burleigh, M.D., The Ingalls Family in America.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
NEEDED: Bible records, family stories about the "old" days, and obituaries .... these are items of interest to our readers.
I am adding items of current news on Ingalls descendants.
If you have any suggestions, or ideas for the newsletter, please let me know!
This issue completes five years of publishing the Ingalls newsletter. It is a rewarding task, and your cooperation and sharing of items makes it a reality.
NOTE: Vital Records to 1850, Towns of Andover, Lynn, Haverhill, Salem and Taunton, Massachusetts ARE NOT INDEXED. See pages 267-276 for INGALLS surnames.
All surnames with reference numbers, i.e. B1576-10 means the Burleigh book identification number assigned to an ancestor; (-10) notes generation from first Ingalls descendants in America. If we are unable to confirm a lineage, they will be noted as "Unplaced".
Thank you for your support.
