Tips for Cool Weather Camping
Here's some helpful camping hints to help
you stay warm and dry so you and your sons can enjoy the camping experience.
1. Make sure you bring rain gear. Most
stores sell the panchos for $1. You can also get them at the dollar
store.
2. Bring an extra pair of shoes that you can
change into to keep your feet dry if it rains.
3. Bring an extra pair of socks. Before
bed, change into the new pair of socks. The trick is to get your feet
dry (even from the little bit of sweat from your daily routine) before you go
to bed and you will be warm all night long.
4. Place your cloths inside large ziplock
bags before you place them in your bag. If your bag gets wet in teh
rain, this will keep your cloths dry.
5. Bring a hat and some light gloves to wear
once the son goes down and it cools off.
6. Bring an extra blanket or double bag you
sleeping bags for night time. I use a 35 degree bag and place it inside a
$14 fleece bag from sports authority. With that combination, I can stay
warm while tent camping in the snow in February.
7. Bring a cap, hat, or hooded sweatshirt to
sleep in during the night. 90% of your body heat is lost through the top
of your head. By keeping something on your head, you will greatly
increase the potential for staying warm and healthy.
