The 147th New York Volunteers Union Regiment was organized at Oswego, New York to serve three years. The companies of which it was composed were raised in the County of Oswego. It was mustered into the service of the United States September 23, 1862. Mustered out of service June 7, 1865, in accordance with orders from the War Department, and the recruits transferred to the Ninety-first New York Volunteers.
