Welcome to the Land of Pleasant Living! This site is designed to help you improve the Chesapeake Bay by taking action on your own property.
The broad term for these strategies is Conservation Landscaping, which encompasses all sorts of programs
you might have heard of: BayScaping, Rain Gardens, Rain Barrels, Native Plants, and more. Most Conservation
Landscaping techniques do one or more of the following:
- Improve Stormwater Management
- Provide Wildlife Habitat
- Conserve Water
- Reduce Nutrients
- Remove Toxics
Here are some things you can do to help the Bay today:
- Calculate Your Impervious Cover Rating - Especially for data geeks like me who want to know
just how much they are hurting or helping the Bay! If you are not a data geek, ignore this link.
- Build a Rain Garden - You can build a Rain Garden in a weekend to manage the stormwater from your downspouts,
sidewalks, or other impervious surfaces. The single best way to get to 100% stormwater management on your property
- Create a Lasagna Garden - Any garden will absorb more than twice as much rain water as a typical lawn.
Reduce your lawn quickly by creating a lasagna garden.
- Reduce Impervious Surface - Do you really need that huge driveway? Consider alternatives to impervious surfaces.
