General Description

Pressurized Mating Adaptors were concieved as interface points with the Russian segments and Russian docking systems used on the ISS.

PMA-1 was used to connect the US Node-1 to the Russian built FGB.

PMA-2 and PMA-3 were used to allow shuttle dockings to the ISS using the Russian APAS-89 docking system.

PMA's APAS-89 docking systems were passive, meanign that the docking ring could not be extended to provide for a soft docking.A mock-up of the PMA structure in 1997
