What happened to traditional marriage

My wife and I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts where traditional marriage is no longer recognize by our politicians. That is a slap in the face by a politician to every traditional couple. Our governor Deval Patrick is part of this travesty. It appears in Massachusetts marriage could encompass anything even your pet a dog or a horse.
