Photos of the moon eclipse I took February 20, 2008 using my camera (Nikon D50) and telescope (Meade ETX 125). Colder than heck, I came in about 11:30 and it was 4 degrees. I took 156 photos and got maybe 10-12 good ones like these. I had never tried this combination before of the camera and telescope together. I got a much better view using just the telescope. It is very difficult to focus with the camera attached as there is no longer a focus on the camera only the telescope and the focus is different through the telescope lens and the camera. Besides that the moon keeps changing position. I tried several different camera settings to see what I would get as I was not familiar with night photography without a flash. Picking up the telescope and tripod after it had been setting in 4 degrees for several hours wasn’t any fun at all, it was so cold it would stick to my skin. The next total eclipse will be December 21, 2010.
I took this photo of the Moon about 7:30pm today (Sunday night March 16th) using my new 200-500 zoom lens and then I cropped the photo. Wish I’d of had it for the eclipse last month.
I took this photo of the Moon about 9:36pm today (Monday night April 14th) I took this photo of the Moon about 10:34pm today (Monday night April 14th)
