Hello all,
Well, even though we had a mild winter here in New England, spring
has definitely arrived. Actually it's more like Summer today, with
the temperature close to 90 degrees! Not bad for April 16!
It does make it difficult to work in my studio, though, on such a nice,
sunny day like today.

The exhibition "Celebrating Boxes" (http://www.celebratingboxes.com/)
continues on its tour. My boxes (http://home.attbi.com/~jackalberti/3inastre.htm
and http://home.attbi.com/~jackalberti/3greatescape.html)
are now being shown at the Clock Tower Gallery in Croydon( http://www.croydon.gov.uk/clocktower/
) in Great Britain, until 5-12-02. The following is what one newspaper
had to say about the show:
The inside of contemporary box making
"We live in boxes, we travel in boxes, when we finish working in our
boxes we go home and relax in front of one. Bearing this in mind it doesn't
seem that surprising that some of us start to make them".
Sam Gorman, boxmaker
If you thought a box was just a simple structure with four sides and a lid, think again. Some are created with a function in mind - for keeping jewelry in, or writing materials, or a musical instrument whilst in others you'll find a humorous look at consumer society and others have nothing more than space for your imagination. It's cabinet making with a twist!
This international exhibition brings together the breathtaking skill and inventiveness of 80 boxmakers from 15 countries. The exhibition has been researched and curated by two of the UKs leading boxmakers Peter Lloyd and Andrew Crawford.
After Croydon, the shows moves to the Collins Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland, on 5-25-02.

My pedestals, entitled The Dance (http://home.attbi.com/~jackalberti/3dance.html), created last year, continue to win awards. In the recent Mystic Art Association's (http://www.mystic-art.org) presentation of "Furniture: A Celebration of the Individual Craftsman", they were given the award for Technical Merit. The show ran from 1/17/02 to 3/2/02 in Mystic, CT .
----------------------------
And finally, this past January I was honored with a Individual Artist Fellowship, given out by the Greater Hartford Art's Council (http://www.connectthedots.org/). This is a grant given to working artists based on the quality of a body of work. The money is to be used in the pursuing of their craft.

Enjoy the Spring!
