Winter Newsletter 2001

Hi everyone,
This is my second quarterly newsletter.  It is hard to believe that three months have passed since my last contact with you all, but I hope that this email finds you well.

My work that was exhibited at the Tullie House Museum in Carlisle, England, (part of the traveling show "Celebrating Boxes") has moved on to its next venue.  From 12-14-01 until 1-13-02, it will be at the Oxo Tower Gallery, Oxo Tower Wharf, Bargehouse Street, South Bank, London, England.  This excellent venue is on London's fashionable South Bank midway between the Millennium Wheel and Tate Modern.  From there, it travels on to the Clock Tower Gallery in Croydon for exhibition dates of 2-8-02 to 5-12-02.  My three pieces that are shown (http://home.attbi.com/~jackalberti/3inastre.htm and http://home.attbi.com/~jackalberti/3greatescape.html) will hopefully find traveling to their liking.  They have another couple of years to go!   Images of two of these boxes were recently published in the Gallery section of American Craft magazine, the Dec./Jan. issue.

A book was written to go along with this exhibit, which includes information about the artists and images of their work.  As stated in the British magazine Good Woodworking,"You won't find 'How To ... ' instructions in Celebrating Boxes. No step-by-step illustrations and photographs to take you through a project. Hands won't be held, routers won't be guided. Sorry. Instead you'll discover inspiration, deep wells of experience and exploration from a global community of boxmakers."   Copies of the book can be obtained from the shows web site (http://www.celebratingboxes.com/).

From 10-24-01 to 11-11-01, the Society for Connecticut Crafts held their annual show at the Jeffery Weiss Gallery in Black Rock, CT.  My pedestals, The Dance (http://home.attbi.com/~jackalberti/3dance.html), were fortunate enough to win First Place/ Wood Honors.  These same pieces will soon be exhibited at the Mystic Art Association's presentation of "Furniture:  A Celebration of the Individual Craftsman".  This will be held from 1/17/02 to 3/2/02 at 9 Water Street, Mystic, CT (http://www.mystic-art.org) .  If you have a chance, please stop by.

Finally, in the January 2002 issue of Log Home Design Ideas, there is an article about me and my craft.  You will find photos of a number of pieces of my furniture as well.  It's an interesting place to have my work included, but contemporary art does actually fit quite nicely into rustic log homes.  And actually, many of these homes are anything but rustic!  Check it out.

My best to all of you.  Have a wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year.

Jack

*Please forward this on to others you feel might be interest in my work.
