Welcome to the Starr's Dog Page

Hello, we are  Tess and Richard Starr.  Tess has owned Doberman Pinschers since 1984, Richard's family had pets growing up, but didn't get involved in dogs until he married Tess.

Agility is our dog sport of choice. We can't say enough about this sport, it's fast and fun and allows you to become a kid again and just run and play with your dog.  In addition, the competitors are supportive of everyone's efforts no matter what their skill level or ability is.  That isn't always the case in other dog sports.

Before discovering agility Tess competed in Schutzhund, Obedience, a little herding and trained an Urban Disaster Search Dog for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with  Northwest Disaster Search Dogs.

We mostly do NADAC trials.   We find them to be the best value for our weekend dollar and the most fun.  Also they offer classes without jumps like Touch and Go and Tunnelers which our German Shepherd Dog, J.J., enjoys a great deal.  But we also do some USDAA and AKC as well as a little Flyball with the Doberman Pinschers.  They don't share J.J.'s dislike of jumping.

We are members of Top Dog an agility dog club located in Olympia, Washington.

Demon

Demon was my first Doberman. My parents bought her for me for Valentines Day, from a back yard breeder. She and her sister Pepsi were the last two puppies in the litter and they sold them to my parents on a two for one deal for a total of $100.00.
Demon taught me a lot about Doberman Pinschers and responsible dog ownership.

She suffered from seizures and had to be retired with 2 out of 3 CDX legs. Her favorite thing in the world was to play tether ball.

Since you've come to this page and are still reading, you must be interested in either Agility or Doberman Pinschers. If you are looking for a puppy, or for information on the breed, we strongly encourage you to contact the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and/or the United Doberman Club. Both these clubs are excellent resources and have many good breeders to choose from.

If you are not sure if the Doberman Pinscher is the right breed for you check out Is the Doberman the right breed for me? The Doberman is a working breed and not for everyone, it's better to do the research now then get a puppy and find out you have made a mistake.

If you know you want a Doberman, but a puppy is not necessarily a requirement please consider adopting a "rescue" Doberman. For a listing of some of the rescue organizations try DPCA's National COPE Website with links to Rescue Organizations.  One other great resource for Doberman Information is the e-mail list DoberWorld-L

A word of warning, we do not endorse the breeding or selling of "White Doberman Pinschers", nor the selling or breeding of "Oversize Doberman Pinschers", that are incorrectly called "Kings", "Gladiators", or "Warlocks". Information on The "White" Doberman and "Z" factored Dogs can be found here.

If you are interested in Agility there are several really good resources on the internet.  Here are a few:

NADAC - North American Dog Agility Council, our favorite agility venue and open to both purebred and mixed breed dogs

USDAA - United States Dog Agility Association, also open to both purebred and mixed breed dogs.

AKC - American Kennel Club, only open to purebred registered dogs, but they offer a large variety of activities you can do with your dog including agility.

Clean Run simply the best agility magazine on the market and they have a wonderful website and e-mail discussion group.

and finally The Dogpatch Doghouse (a good starting place for dog information). Especially The Dog Agility Page

I hope you have enjoyed my home page and found these links interesting.

The pictures on this page are from many friends and relations and some wonderful agility photographers including:
