Chameleon Cam has gone Offline
Whaldo passed away on February 10, 2000
Her memory will never fade and neither will
her site |
With the death of Whaldo, I have lost two
things. One being the loss of a beloved pet, the other being an interesting subject
for a Web Cam. See what once was the first chameleon on the
Internet.

Thanks for stopping by one area of my homestead, here on the web, that I call
"Jaeger Acres". This acreage contains many strange oddities. They range from
things that fly through space and time to objects from the deepest, darkest regions of our
planet. Many are believable, many are not. Upon this property are many
denizens of our world.
Here on this page you were be able to spot
one of them. Her name was Whaldo and she was a veiled chameleon. For over two
years, of her four years in existence, she shared her life in our home with many
others on the Internet. She brought much joy to our family and to those who have
been here before to visit her, I hope she did the same for you. She passed away
quietly on February 10, 2000 after laying her last clutch of eggs. I guess this time
it was just to much for her in her old age. From what I understand, four years
is old age for a female veiled chameleon. ( Male veiled's tend to live longer )
Anyway, she will be missed by us, and from all the e- mail I have received over the
years I imagine by others also. When I first started this webcam site I never
thought so many would visit this site. She received much recognition, including
two spots on
the ZDTV (Tech TV) show (once when she was alive and the other after she had died) I thank you all for making this possible.
In closing I would like to
say, Chameleons are a special creature. They are a slow and solitary animal, but can get
along well with humans, but they are not for everybody. They require a lot of care
and a well controlled environment for them to have a quality life in captivity.
There also are many problems with them being caught in the wild and/or being bred for
pets. But we humans are fascinated with animals of all sorts and will always keep
them as pets. This will never change. All I ask is if you think you
might be wanting a chameleon, or any animal as a pet, you fully understand them, their
needs and what you are getting into. Remember, "their life is in your hands".
At this time, I myself am not even sure if I will be getting another chameleon.
Although I must say Whaldo was one of the best pets that has shared it's life with
me. God bless all animals.
