Family Trees can get confusing very quickly. It's a lot less confusing if you view things from the perspective of James Richard "Dick" Kellogg, Totsy's father. If you are interested in the most immediate ancestors, check out James Richard "Dick" Kellogg.
But you can go back much further if you wish. You can go all the way back to Phillipe Kellogg in 1560 in Braintree, England, and trace the family in its moves. This document also shows the ancestors of Titus (who is buried in Bossier Parish), Hiram (his brother who was the father of Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr. and his progeny), and William Pitt Kellogg (who was their one-half fourth cousin once removed; i.e., not very much kin at all).

Most of the ancestors of those Kellogg family members who still live in northwest Louisiana come from Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr., and his wife Rebecca Frances Lindsey (in some records her first two names are reversed). A word of caution: the names of the parish in which a town is located often changes through this period, as new parishes are established. Martin, Louisiana, for instance has been in Natchitoches Parish, Claiborne Parish, Bossier Parish, and now is considered Red River Parish. Census records in that part of Louisiana from that time period are particularly confusing for this reason.
Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr. was born May 12, 1828 in Tennessee, moved to Oakville, Alabama around 1848, and married Rebecca Frances Lindsey. Miss Lindsey was born September 23, 1831 in Oakville. Kellogg's family tree is located at Hiram Kellogg--his father. Rebecca Frances Lindsey's family tree is located at Patrick Lindsey--her original ancestor. A slightly different tree shows her mother's ancestors. See Thomas Brooks
In the late 1840's, Yellow Fever decimated the town of Oakville, and many of the remaining residents decided to leave. One of the groups consisted of Mark Jefferson Lindsey and his family, as well as his two sisters and their husbands. The sisters were Margaret Tranquilla (with her husband William Hunter) and Frances Rebecca (with her husband Samuel Kellogg). William Hunter's ancestors are available at John T. Hunter--the fore bearer of William Hunter. The Hunters are first cousins of James Richard "Dick" Kellogg.
Samuel and Frances settled in Itawamba County, Mississippi, for a few years, then moved to Martin, Louisiana to join the rest of their group during the early 1850's. Two of their children carried on the family name through their descendants.
Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Jr., was born October 04, 1858 in Claiborne Parish, LA, and died October 04, 1918 in Martin, LA. He married Louvicy Francis Hunter January 26, 1881, daughter of William Hunter and Margaret Lindsey. She was born August 08, 1860 in Martin, LA, and died December 13, 1941 in Martin, LA. They had twelve children. Their family trees are available at Samuel H. Kellogg Jr. and Patrick Lindsey--Louvicy's mother's family.
James Richard "Dick" Kellogg was born March 09, 1864 in Martin. LA , and died February 06, 1914 in Martin, LA. He married Mary Rose Elliott January 18, 1889, daughter of Henry Elliott and Emily Martin. Mary Rose Elliot's family tree is at John P. Elliott. Mary Rose was born January 20, 1869, and died April 12, 1904 in Red River Parish, LA. They had seven children. Their family tree is at James Richard "Dick" Kellogg.
By the beginning of the twenty-first century, there were an additional six generations of the family, with another 145 individuals (not counting spouses). Most of the details of the direct descendants are contained at
Totsy F. Kellogg--all the descendants of Totsy and Meroe Kellogg, at least as of December, 2002. Please note that the names of people still alive are deleted for privacy reasons.>
