1583    First mention of Kellogg in English written records (Phillippe), although name had been used for hundreds of years

1620        Mayflower sails to America

1640    (approx.) Three Kellogg brothers (Lt. Joseph, Daniel and Samuel); settled in Massachusetts and Connecticut

1660        (approx.) Hadley, Massachusetts is founded; Joseph becomes a selectman; Daniel settles in Norwalk, Connecticut; Samuel settles in Hatfield, Massachusetts.

1682    LaSalle discovers mouth of Mississippi River

1714        Natchitoches founded by St. Denis (French explorer)

1715        New Orleans founded by Bienville

1775    American Revolution begins;  Declaration July 4, 1776

1783    Treaty of Paris brings end to Revolutionary War

1799        George Washington dies

1800    Lucy Fletcher (who will marry Titus Kellogg) and her parents leave New Hampshire for Worcester, Massachusetts

1803    Louisiana Purchase; entire Mississippi River Valley is purchased from France.

1812        Louisiana Admitted as a State;  what will later be Martin and Coushatta is in Natchitoches Parish

1817    Lucy Fletcher and her family move to the “far west” Chautauqua County, in the extreme western part of New York;

1817    Isaac Elliott (grandfather of Mary Rose Elliott)  born in North Carolina

1817        Lucy Fletcher marries Titus Kellogg in Ashville/Jamestown, NY

1828        Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr. born in Tennessee

1831    Rebecca Frances Lindsey, Samuel, Sr.’s future wife, is born in Oakville, AL 

1835        Lucy and Titus send two of their children to Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio

1836        Titus goes bankrupt and children withdraw from school; family begins to think about moving to Louisiana

1837        Titus has visited Claiborne (later Bossier) Parish, and arranged for land grants for farm in area; various family members receive land grants over next several years; family has moved to Cincinnati in preparation for move; spent winter there until August of 1839

1838        Claiborne Parish established, includes later Bossier and Webster and Red River Parishes.

            Titus and family move to Minden, Louisiana, and settled farm a few miles from there

1842    Mary Fletcher Kellogg is visited by James Harris Fairchild, professor at Oberlin, and marries him in Minden, LA.; they return to Oberlin, Ohio; taking youngest son of Titus (George) with them; Marcia Louisa Kellogg marries her first cousin, Alfred Augustus Kellogg and moves to Vicksburg

1843        Titus Family moves fifteen miles to Lake Bistineau;

            Bossier Parish established out of old Claiborne Parish; includes present day Red River Parish 

1844    William Edwin Kellogg elected county clerk for Bossier Parish ; moves to Bellevue, parish seat;  Charles Augustus moves to New Orleans

1846    “Cotton worm” destroys Titus and Lucy’s crop

1848        Titus Kellogg dies and is buried in present day Koran, LA

1849        Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr.  weds Rebecca Frances Lindsey; they leave Alabama for Mississippi

1850        Lucy Fletcher Kellogg sells land and slaves and moves to New Orleans; is frightened by cholera epidemic and returns to Oberlin, OH

1850    Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr. and family are residing in Itawamba County, MS

1853        Samuel, Sr. and family move from Mississippi to Martin, LA

            Mark Jefferson Lindsey and his wife, William Hunter and his wife move to Martin, LA.

1857        Charles  Augustus dissolves business in New Orleans, moves to Keokuk, Iowa; his mother also moves, as does his sister Lucy and her husband Charles Birge

1858        Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Jr. born in Martin, LA

1860    Ft. Sumter fired on; Civil War begins

1863    Samuel Hiram Kellogg, Sr. dies

1864    James Richard Currey Kellogg born in Martin, La.

1865    Civil War Ends

1869    Mary Rose Elliott born in what later becomes Red River Parish

1871    Red River and Webster Parishes established

1889        Dick Kellogg and Mary Rose Elliott marry

1890    Totsy Kellogg born

1893        Loretta Kellogg born

1895    Fanny Kellogg born

1897    Henry Clyde Kellogg Born

1899        James Roy Kellogg Born

1903        Plese “Big Bubba” Kellogg Born

1904    Mary Rose Elliott and infant son die

1913    Totsy marries Alice B. Carter

1914        Dick Kellogg (Totsy’s father) dies

1918    Totsy marries Meroe Helen Kellogg
