What the Scots really did for us --
Just  a "wee dram" please...

If you haven't experienced single malt scotch, there is a whole new world for you to explore!

I have only visited a few of the Scottish distilleries but I am amazed at what they can do with so little.  In this poor land the Scots have proven again that you can achieve anything you believe is possible.  To take some grain and water and heat and create such heavenly elixirs is truly beyond expectations.

These single malts are my favorites (so far).  These are lighter with less smoky peat flavor.  Some are finished in port or sherry barrels to round out the flavor!!!  I am not a great fan of the heavy smoked peat flavor of some varieties, but these malts offer an entirely different taste for those so inclined.

ISLE OF JURA
 10 Year Old Single Malt
When you want a light bodied, smooth, creamy texture.  You can imagine yourself looking across the sea to the Scottish mainland with this beautiful and mild single malt.

Bargain priced.

Tasting Notes

Nose ~ Very light sherry essence with sweet smoke.

Taste ~ A smooth and very light malt flavor.  There is a hint of the sea!  No particular density of flavor makes this a nice scotch for before dinner.

DALMORE
12 Year Old Single Malt
A remarkable malt, a deep terra cotta color is very unusual for the value price.  Citrus flavors with some fruitiness.  Occasional vanilla highlights and finish with touch of sweet smoke.

Reasonably priced.

Tasting Notes

Nose ~ Fragrance of heather with hint of smoke, not overpowering.

Taste ~ Hearty malt with strong sherry influence.   Well balanced with citrus highlights.

BALVENIE
12 Year Old Double Wood Single Malt
This single malt gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. During its period of maturation The Balvenie DoubleWood is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill Spanish oak sherry cask.

Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt - the traditional casks, having previously held bourbon, soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor.

In 2001 The Balvenie DoubleWood has won a Gold Medal in both the International Wine & Spirit Competition and the International Spirits Challenge.

higher priced.

Tasting Notes

Nose ~ Sweet fruit and sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.

Taste ~ A smooth and mellow single malt of beautifully combined flavors - nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry - with a long and warming finish.

GLENMORANGIE
Port Finish 12 Year Old Single Malt

A truly remarkable malt, antique gold in colour: golden with a rosy hue. This whisky has been matured for at least 12 years in American white oak casks and racked for several years into Ruby Port casks for 'finishing'.

Like taking a cruise through the Mediterranean, you will encounter hints of sandalwood and allspice, while floating through the sweet smells of chocolate and butterscotch. This is a diverse palette, and fully rewarding.

If you have the opportunity to partake of this drink, seize it. It will make an impression upon you not unlike the first time you kissed a girl, or scored a touchdown, or made your first million. Cherish the experience, because once you have had your first taste, you can never again re-live that experience.

higher priced.

Tasting Notes

Nose ~ Amazingly complex aromas.  Chocolate and butterscotch can merge with citrus scents when over that single perfect ice cube!

Taste ~ Extremely smooth, sweet and dry flavors - I find a chocolate richness rushes over me when relaxed with my Glenmorangie after dinner.

Moderation sir, aye, moderation is my rule. Nine or ten is reasonable refreshment, but after that it's apt to degenerate into drinking. -- Old Scottish Highland Saying

Just give me a roaring fire and my Glenmorangie and I can be happy!!
