James Lee Weaver's Family Tree

Francis E. Jenkins [Parents] was born in 1777 in Wilkes, Ga. He died in 1831 in Monroe, Ga. He married Unknown Douglas in 1794/1822.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 4, Ed. 1, Tree #1905, Date of Import: Apr 12, 2000]

First and most obvious, note that Francis's wife is not listed on the 1830 Monroe county census. This means she must have passed away prior to 1825 but after 1820, since the youngest child was at least 5 years old but not over 10. Second, note that Francis himself is listed and his age is between 50 and 60. This means that he was born sometime between 1770 and 1780. The records reveal the following: Males age 5-10 1, Males age 10-15 2, Males age 50-60 1,
Females age 5-10 1, Females age 15-20 1.

Also his occupation was listed as "farmer". Note that only males are indicated.
Edmund was not living in the household. Also note only two females. Malvina was married and not living at home. This was the 1830 Monroe Co. census.
Francis passed away in the spring of 1831 leaving four minor children.

Unknown Douglas was born in 1764/1789. She died in 1827/1880. She married Francis E. Jenkins in 1794/1822.

They had the following children:

  F i Malvina Jenkins
M ii Edmund Jenkins II was born in 1805. He died in 1806/1895.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 4, Ed. 1, Tree #1905, Date of Import: Apr 12, 2000]

A marriage record for Edmund was not found in Jasper County, possibly because he was already married. At least we know that he was not living at his father's home as was indicated by the 1830 census. However , there was an Edmund Jenkins found in Jasper County census in 1820. The ages of household members appear to coincide with those of the Francis Jenkins family in Monroe County census in1830. More research will be necessary before making an assumption regarding any relationship between the two. If Francis was a resident of Wilkes County in 1823 as the Monroe County deed records indicate,
then that would suggest no relationship between the two.

note*...First and most obvious, Francis wife is not listed in the 1830 census. This could mean that she passed away prior to 1825 but after 1820, since the youngest child was at least 5 years old but not over 10. Second, note that Francis himself is listed and his age is between 50 and 60, which means that he was born sometime between 1770 and 1780. Third, that only five males are indicated, one age 5-10, two age 10-15 one age 15-20 and Francis as head of household age 50-60. Edmund was not listed living in the household. Fourth, note only two females were listed, one age 5-10 and one age 15-20. Malvina was married to Green B. Hill and was not living at home.
  M iii Sterling Jenkins III
F iv Nancy Jenkins was born in 1814. She died in 1815/1908.
  M v William Henry Jenkins
F vi Jane Jenkins was born in 1820. She died in 1821/1914.

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 4, Ed. 1, Tree #1905, Date of Import: Apr 12, 2000]

Could it be that Elizabeth passed away and that Sarry was her sister?
Last but not least, the coincidence that William Jenkins married Elizabeth Barclay, daughter of gaurdian William Barclay in Dec/1839. Wm. Barclay(res. of Jasper County, as supported by 1830 census records) witnessed Francis Jenkins' will and was also named administrator of Francis' estate. The will was recorded in Monroe County. In March 1832, Wm. Barclay petitioned the Monroe court for the removal of proceedings to Jasper County. There were numerous entries in the Jasper Co. records to indicate that Wm. Barclau not only executed his responsibilities of adminstrator, he also was appointed guardian of Francis' four minor children and su[[orted them in addition to his own three children, one of whom was Elizabeth Barclay. 1830 census records indicate that he and his wife had two male children and one female child.

From the foregoing, an obvious conclusion is that Francis Jenkins and Wm. Barclay must have foged a close friendship in preceding years. It may be that they lived in close proximity prior to Francis residing in Monroe County. A search in Wilkes County records will be required to verify the whereabouts of Wiliam Barclay.

One item of interest is found in land lottery records which indicate that the orphans of Francis Jenkins from Jasper County drew a winner in the land lottery of 1827, which was also known as the "Gold Lottery" because of the location of the land being sectioned off.* Gold was discovered in the north Georgia mountains which caused a land rush. This will also require more research to discover the disposition of the land. April 1994
