Christopher Strother [Parents] was born in 1715 in Culpepper, Va. He died in 1795 in Franklin, Nc. He married Ann Kemp.

Christopher, m. Ann Kemp. In 1746 as of Caroline Co., he executed a conveyance of 350 acres in Culpeper; and OcL, 1749, as of Fairfax Co., he conveyed to Capt. Benjamin Strother "the lands in King George in Hanover Parish, the land given him by his father, Jeremiah Strother." Subsequently he moved to Bute Co., N.C. near Franklin Co. in 1757. Bute Co. then was composed of Franklin and Warren Counties. In 1799 these counties were divided and Christopher Strother's home was Franklin Co. where he lived and became quite prominent. The old Strother place is known now as Maysville Township, about two miles from Louisburg, N.C., in what is known as the King place. One dau., Ann Strother, m. Garrett Goodloe, son of Rev. Henry GoodIoe, of Caroline Co., VA, and had a son, James Kemp Goodloe, who m. Mary Reaves Jones (dau of Daniel Jones, son of the first Edward, early prominent in Granville Co., N. C.), and had Col. Daniel R. Goodloe, now of Washington, D. C. Issue of Christopher (Judd) Strother and Anne Kemp. 1. James Strother., b. 1764-d.1843, m.Patsy Bowers. 2. Ann Strother, m. Garrett Goodlow. 3. John Strother, d. 1796, m. Jane Fussell (this is incorrect, cp). 4. Sarah Strother, d. July 5, 1842, age 93, m. James Murphy 5. Eleanor Strother, never married 6. Nancy Strother. Christopher purchased land on Linches Creek of the Tar River to the west of Sandy Creek. 1763 DEED: Granville Co, NC, 13 Aug, DB F-506. Christopher Strother of said county, planter, to James Murphree, planter, for L500, a tract of 25 acres on the Mare Branch adjoining said Strother; wit: Mary Strother and Wright Murphree. 1786 DEED: Franklin Co, NC, 22 Mar, DB 5-127. John Norwood, Jr., of said county to Christopher Strother of same, for L200 the tract of 330 acres on the south bank of Crooked Creek whereon he lately lived, adjoining John Freeman, John Mullins, John Ferrell, and the Deep Branch; and a tract of 79 acres on the north bank, adjoining Perry, Ferrell, and the aforesaid tract, land which Norwood got by deed from Moses Joiner on 18 Nov 1780; wit: Wm. Christopher Strother of said county to his son, James Strother, of same, for 10 shillings a tract of 200 acres on the south bank of Crooked Creek and on the old Spring branch in the field adjoining Mitchell and Freeman, it being part of the land granted by a deed from John Norwood to Christopher; wit: Judd Strother, Sherrod Sanders. 1795 DEED: Franklin Co, NC, 30 Apr, DB 10-1423, p. 248. John Strother and James Strother of said county to Judd Strother of same, for L30 their interests in a tract of 130 acres on the south side of Crooked Creek belonging to the estate of Christopher Strother, decd, beginning at James Strother's corner on the run of Crooked Creek adjoining John Mullens and John Ferrell; another tract of 54 acres on the north bank of said creek adjoining Joshua Perry Ferrell, and the aforesaid, all granted by deed to Christopher by John Norwood on 22 Mar 1785; wit: John Crawley, William Jones, Josiah Massey. 1795 WILL: Franklin Co, Nc, WB A-185. Estate records have James, John. Judd, and Eleanor Strother; Henry Parish; Thomas Flood; Garret Goodloe; Bolling Fitts; and James Murphy. 1801 DEED: Franklin Co, NC, 25 Feb, DB 3-122, Judd Strother to James Strother for land formerly owned by Christopher Strother. He died in Franklin Co. in 1795. No will being found, the Court ordered James Strother be appointed adm. for the estate of Christopher Strother, deceased. 1790 Census of NC: Christopher Strother, Franklin Co., Halifax District. 1 male over 16, and 3 females and 12 Negro slaves. Peter Strothcr was in Caswell Co., Hillsborough Dist. Richard Strother in Edgecomb Co., Halifax Dist. 1 male over 16, 3 males under 16, 4 females and 3 Negros. (Peter was probably single as no data on him).

Jeremiah Strother [Parents] was born about 1667 in , Va. He died in 1741 in Orange, Va. He married Eleanor Unknown.

Jeremiah Strother was a freeholder in Westmoreland Co. as early as 1703, as appears by a purchase from J. W. Smith; and subsequently a planter in King George Co. when that county was formed from Westmoreland, where he resided until probably as late as I736, when he moved to Orange Co.(now Culpeper). Here he died in 1741. His will dated June 7, 1740, was prob. March 26, I74I, and recorded in Children: (1) James Strother m. Margaret French (2)WiIIiam, m. Written 7 Jun 1740, Jeremiah Strother lists wife Elener; sons as James, William, Jeremiah, Francis, Lawrence, and Christopher; daus Catherine and Elizabeth; mother's rights to Christopher; exers: sons James and William. Devised all property to wife Elener (sic) for life or widowhood, and after her marriage or death to son Christopher, special legacies to sons James, William, Francis, Jeremiah, and Lawrence, and daus. Catharine and EIizabeth; exers: sons James and William; wits: John Catlett, Francis Slaughter, Wm. Lightfoot. He is said to have died at the age of 86 but it is nowhere shown whether this age is taken from deposition, Bible or Wills. It is very probable that Eleanor may have been a second wife if he died at that age.

William Strother [Parents] was born about 1630 in Nhum, England. He died in 1702 in Richmond, Va. He married Dorothy Savage in 1651 in , Va.

1658 LAND: Westmoreland Co, VA, DB 4-283, William Strowder grant for 500 acres. 1664 LAND: Westmoreland Co, VA, DB 4-623, William Struder grant for 500 acres. Appears in records of old Rappahannock Co, VA, as early as 12 Jul 1763 to mark his cattle. 1702 WILL: Richmond Co, VA, WB 2, William Strothers (Strother), written 30 Dec 1700, proved 4 Nov 1702. Legatees: eldest son William Strother land testator lived on, after death of said William's mother, son James. wife Dorothy, sons, James, Jeremy, Robert, Benjamin, and Joseph, grandson Will Strother. Reference: Historical Southern Families, by Boddie William Strother, founder of this family in Virginia, settled in Cittenbourne Parish on the Rappahannock near the present Port Conway. The visitation of Northumberland 1615 contains the following chart: William Strother married dau. of Edm. Horsley of Milborne, Esq. of Newton, Esq. William Strother married Jane, dau. of John Selby of Twysell., Esq. of Newton, Esq. Lancelot Strother of Langton married Elinor, dau. of John Coigniers and New, Esq. Issue of this union: William Strother, Lancelot, John, Anne, Elizabeth, Jane, Elinor, Catherine, and Mary Strother, of Langton and Newton, living in 1615. Seal of John Strother of Newton, 1615-"A man on Hourseback." A Strother family is also found in and around London. William Strother, the first of Virginia, is said to have married Dorothy, dau. of his neighbor, Capt. Anthony Savage, but there seems to be no proof. Old Rappahannock Co. was divided into Richmond and Essex in 1692, and William Strother made his will in Richmond Co, "sick and weak" Oct. 2, 1700, probated Nov. 4, 1702. He bequeathed his eldest son William Strother, 150 acres of land including plantation I live upon--except that while my wife Dorothy shall live she shall peacefully and quietly possess one half of said plantation, with housing, etc. upon her death same is to return to son William, to son James 150 acres next to William, the remainder of my land to be divided between sons Robert and Benjamin; son Joseph to be put to school and to be free at his own disposing at age of 16; to grand son Will Strother 2,100 lbs. tbco. to be sent to England and proceeds paid him at age of 10. All rest of my personal estate to my loving wife Dorothy, during time of her widowhood, but if she shall marry, said personal estate is to be equally divided between her and my sons James, Jeremiah, Robert, Benjamin, land Joseph. William Strother [Parents] was born in 1598 in Tythe, Akeld, England. He died in 1667 in Nhum, England. He married Elizabeth Unknown.

Tythe of Akeld for life and was known as Kirknewton. The royal descent of William Strother from Edward III King of England is listed in Gary Boyd Roberts, The Royal Descents of 500 Immigrants, 1993, based on acceptance of same by Walter Lee Sheppard, Jr, of the Descendants of the Illegitimate Sons and Daughters of the Kings of England (NGS Quarterly, Vol 62, No 3, Sep 1774, pp. 182-191). This was refuted by Neil D. Thompsom, FASG, on 9 Jan 1993; there was no evidence that this William Strother had ever married or had children.
