Welcome to the official site of the 2006 Type 3 VW Invasion!

The 2006 Invasion will be on July 27-30, 2006!

Have just added a pre-registration form to the site. Clicking on the link above will open the registration form PDF file. Just print it, fill it out, and mail it along with your registration fee to Brian Fye. Instructions are on the form.

This is a change in the date due to the City of Myrtle Creek changing the date of their festival that we need to be a part of to use the facility for the Invasion. The good news it gives you all another week to get your Type 3s ready for the show! No excuses now.

We have had some questions about fellow VW enthusiasts bringing their Type 1, Type 2, or Thing to the Invason. The "TYPE 3 INVASION" appreciates your enthusiasm. However, this is a 'different' type of event. In the course of a summer the T-2 crowd has their "Buses By the Bridge" in Havasu, and "The Bulli Brigade", in Florida, and as usual there are many events for T-1's to join, like the VW Classic, Sacramento Bug O Rama and Octo and on and so forth. But since the T-3 is one of the orphans of the VW world, this is a get together for T-3's only. You are welcome to come and see all the various T-3's, including possibly some even more rare T-34's, but T-1's and T-2's are not 'invited' to the Invasion as such. We hope you will understand.

It is suggested that you try to arrive on the Thursday, because we have planned a nice leisurely cruise up to Crater Lake on Friday. The Show and Shine Gathering will be on Saturday. For early arrivals, our host, Brian Fye, will have a BBQ at his house Thursday evening with burgers, hotdogs and beverages. (Please RSVP if you would like to attend this)

*The Type 3 Invasion will have one day (Saturday) that corresponds with a local car show and city festival in Myrtle Creek. This means we will have our own section and awards within the car show area. We hope this exposure to the general public will increase interest in the Type 3 scene. (This community festival attracts over 15,000 people with no admission) The city park that the car show/Type 3 Invasion will be using, along with the Myrtle Creek Festival will have live music at times, covered play area for children, carnival type food booths, a lumberjack competition, off road rock crawl and the like.

*During the show-n-shine time on Saturday, we will be bringing some shade for any tech sessions we might want to have on Saturday. Perhaps Jim's FI session (very useful even for a carb guy like me) and Keith's front end session? Saturday night Myrtle Creek puts ona fireworks display. For a small town, they do it nice.

*We will be doing a cruise to Crater Lake on the Friday. Pictures do not do the lake justice. Also there are literally dozens of 'ideal' places to take photos of our cars with the lake in the background. This cruise will be at a fairly lazy pace up a very pretty and curvey state highway through the woods.

*There is an RV/camping area at one end of the Mill Site Park in Myrtle Creek if people don't want to stay in a hotel. Our goal is to have all the dates, host hotel and such posted 12 months out from the event.

*We are within minutes of Wild Life Safari and it is a great place to go! You can even take your convertible in...as long as you stay out of the lion and bear sections. Real, roaming wildlife... with lions, tigers, bears, elephants, giraffes and the like. We could go early Thursday afternoon and then return for the BBQ on Thursday evening.

*There may also be a cruise on the Sunday of the event to the Redwoods if there is enough interest. This would be a day cruise with a stop for food, and that general woodsie experience.

*If you have a set of multi-channel 2-way radios, bring them. They are a big help during the cruising parts of the event.

*Finally, remember what the original focus of the Type 3 Invasions is... Show up at a smallish town, meet other Type 3 people for a common interest, enjoy building a kindred bond with said other people, and just relax! The 04 Type 3 Invasion really nailed the relaxed part with the food/fun at the host hotel, the getting lost in town tour, and at the event site. Ron Mann did an outstanding job as the host!!!

Although there will be more driving at this event than in the past, once in Myrtle Creek, the trips will be lazy with as many stops along the way as the cruisers would like. Photo ops will abound, and if you are like me, your screensaver will give you reminders for years to come!

So, make plans, save up vacation time and come to SW Oregon in 06!
