She was born on the morn my Visa bill was due
For the bassinet and pink layette and "no more tears" shampoo.
Though my hospital co-pay was no dream come true
She was worth every penny.

Loan approved, we soon moved to a mortgage and a yard.
Where golden rules and local schools are held in high regard.
Selling stocks for a mini-van wasn't even hard
Because she's worth every penny.

        Our return on investment is substantial.
        Unfortunately, not in matters financial.

Childcare, diaper wear, may keep us in arrears,
But her happy face and easy grace will wipe away our tears
When our retirement savings pay for her college years
She'll be worth every penny.
And by the time she is twenty
She'll be worth every hundred grand.
