"Promising to Compromise" Copyright 2000 Jacqueline S. Levy

I give and take and take and give but mainly take.
It's me for him and him for me but mostly me.
When I said "I do" while gazing in his eyes,
I don't remember promising to compromise.

What's his is ours and certainly what's mine is mine.
We discuss our plans before we choose my way.
We solve disagreements when my love complies.
I don't remember promising to compromise.

Some folks fail to understand my view.
        They say I act selfishly.
But marriage means two people merge as one,
So why shouldn't the one be me?

We work well together when I'm in charge.
Afterwards he'll scratch my back and I'll scratch mine.
I would never cheat on him or tell him lies.
But I don't remember promising
(Isn't it the oddest thing?)
I don't remember promising
To Compromise.
