"Half a Million Dollar Shack"   Copyright 2000 Jacqueline S. Levy

All around the country
My friends have settled down
In comfortable homes and neighborhoods.

But here in California
In my Silicon-based town,
My realtor has really delivered the goods.

With my half a million dollar shack.
Just five percent down and the shirt off my back.
I finally have something I can call my own.
Mortgage insurance and a jumbo loan.

For my half a million dollar shack.
Conveniently placed by a railroad track.
Termites are no problem if I fumigate.
The kitchen was remodeled in sixty-eight.

        But for a slice
        Of paradise
        You have to make
        A sacrifice.

        Don't think twice
        Take good advice:
        Offer ten k more
        Than the asking price.

And you could have a view out back.
Ten thousand square inches of concrete with cracks.
First too many people fled the midwest snows.
Now they all are cashing in on IPOs.
At least I bought before the prices really rose.

My half a million dollar --
Don't apply if you're blue collar
For a half a million dollar
Shack.
