First Launch!

July 11, 2004

Its techincally the second launch, but the maiden voyage was during some bad seas and my hydroplane isn't exactly a displacement hull. :)

Many thanks to my girlfriend Jen for taking the pictures and dealing with my obsession.

She's laid in the water and no leaks found.

The engine has and did start without too much trouble. She needs a few pulls when cold to prime the crankcase but she purrs nicely and pumps water.

This is me giving it a good bit of throttle from a standstill. She really does 'wallow in the mud' until she gets enough speed to get on plane. But when she does, The bow drops nearly level with the water and she just moves!!

My darn hat fell off on a good run and well, its my lucky Guinness hat! So obviously I turned around damn quick*

*Damn quick is a relative term when it refers to a hydro without a skid fin.

My brother got a chance at the wheel but he just couldn't bring himself to open up the throttle.

"Wahh!! I don't wanna kill myself on a boat!"

Here's a short movie of my brother cruising by at some wimpy half-throttle speed.
