| Ed Bokhour began playing drums at age nine, and spent many years playing and recording music professionally in the New York City area. Ed has played drums and percussion for jazz, rock and fusion groups as well as in theatrical and independent film soundtracks. In 1985, Ed came to the Boston area to study Aerospace Engineering at MIT, and received his master's degree in 1988. He spent nearly thirteen years designing and building electronic systems for spaceflight experiments. More recently, Ed has embarked on an inventing career, which has also given him the time to play regularly with the Jazz Express. Ed lives in Concord with his wife and two children. |
| Brad Hubbard-Nelson moved to Concord from California in 2000 with his wife, daughter, and son. Although he admits there is never enough time for it, playing trumpet and flugelhorn with the Jazz Express has been a very enjoyable recreation, providing a much needed balance to his daytime career as an engineer and R&D Director at a Innov-X Systems in Woburn. |
| Gary Mathews is originally from upstate New York. He grew up in Liverpool, New York, and began playing classical bass at the age of eight. He continued to study throughout high school, where he began playing jazz bass. He has been a member of several jazz groups since high school and spent two years touring the United States with a jazz/fusion group called Network. He also had the opportunity to play with jazz great Chuck Mangione, an experience he recalls as "one of the highlights of my musical career." Gary is one of the original members of Jazz Express. He lives in Chelmsford with his wife and daughter. |
| Amy
Collins started playing piano at age
seven. Trained as a classical pianist, since the age of ten she
has accompanied school choirs and musical programs. Amy studied
piano pedagogy at Longy School of Music
in Cambridge, Massachusetts and
has taught piano to adults and children. She currently studies
jazz piano with Bill Rinehart. Oh, yeah, she adds sultry vocals
on a few numbers. Amy also plays piano with the Indian Hill
Big Band. She lives in
Concord, Massachusetts with her husband and two daughters. |
| David Wright began studying and playing piano at a young age, and eventually added violin, baritone horn, and guitar. In high school he played drums in a rock band and finally settled on saxophone and other woodwinds as his main instruments. He played in jazz bands in the Salt Lake City area and began to study music composition at the University of Utah. His career interests changed and he now teaches at Brandeis University. Besides playing saxophones and flute, he does some arranging and composing for Jazz Express. He has published professionally on the history and ideology of music in the Bible. He lives in Chelmsford with his wife and son, and has three other children who have left the nest. |
