  • tcl
  • tk
Both Tcl and Tk are usually installed by default.
Python with Tkinter Python 2.2.2 and Tkinter for Python 2.2.2 are available via FTP. These versions of Python and Tkinter are compatible with the PIL package provided by SuSE that is only available via FTP. They are under the RPM names:

  • python-tk-2.2.2-92.i586.rpm
  • blt-2.4y-167.i586.rpm (dependency)
Note that Python does not install by default. You can use these RPMs. If you have Python installed, then use the above packages to update the existing packages. The CD versions of Python may not be compatible with PIL.
PIL Python Imaging Lib. for Python 2.2.2 is only available via FTP. It is under the RPM name:
  • python-imaging-1.1.3-195.i586.rpm

Skencil
Skencil See the main page of this site for details of this package. Use the below RPM:

skencil-0.6.17pre3-jab_SuSE_8.2.i586.rpm

Installs in:   /usr.
ttf2pt1 This utility is required by the skFont Manager. It allows Skencil access to True Type fonts via conversion to PS Type 1. Use the below RPM:

ttf2pt1-3.4.4-jab_SuSE_8.2.i586.rpm

Installs in:   /usr
Pmw Required for the skFont Manager GUI. Use the below RPM:

pmw-1.2.0-jab_SuSE_8.2.i586.rpm

Installs in:   /usr/lib/python/site-packages.

Optional
PyXML This Library enables Skencil to import and export SVG files. PyXML for Python 2.2.2 is only available via FTP. It is under the RPM name:
  • pyxml-0.8.2-55.i586.rpm
  • python-xml-2.2.2-92.i586.rpm (dependency)
ReportLab This Library enables Skencil to directly export to the PDF format. Note, you may get better accuracy saving as PS and then converting to PDF. But in simple cases this is useful. Use the below RPM:

reportLab-1.20-jab_SuSE_8.2.i586.rpm

Installs in:   /usr/lib/python/site-packages.

Note that this is freeware, but is not under the GNU license.

Extra
Gv The gv PS viewer is not related to the installation of Skencil. But, gv is highly recommended for viewing Skencil PS output. Frankly, the SuSE KDE default PS viewer konqueror/kghostview stinks! Use gv instead.

Gv is included in the SUSE CD under the base name:

  • gv
Gv is not included by default. You will need to add it.

SkLaTeX
teTeX 2.x

TeTeX and dependencies are only available via FTP. They are under the RPM names:

  • te_ams-2.0.1-26.i586.rpm
  • te_latex-2.0.1-26.i586.rpm
  • tetex-2.0.1-26.i586.rpm
Note that these packages are very large and may not be accessible to users without a high speed Internet connection. In any case, use the above link of the SuSE (Novell) mirror sites to find the FTP site "closest" to you.
pstoedit This PS conversion utility is the backbone of skLaTeX. Use the below RPM:

pstoedit-3.33-jab_SuSE_8.2.i586.rpm

Installs in:   /usr.

Note: this RPM of pstoedit is compiled without libplotter, libemf and libming. So it is limited in function.

Pmw Installed with Skencil RPM set (above).
skLaTeX Allows the inclusion of TeX objects into Skencil as curves. Use the below RPM:

skLaTeX-0.9.2d-jab_SuSE_8.2.i586.rpm
