![]() At one time, they flew in a captured "Zero", a Japanese fighter plane. They practically tore it apart to see what made it tick. Everyone had heard of its ability to out maneuver the P40 Tiger Shark, the American fighter plane. But the P40 could fly further, could outshoot with bigger and more guns and it could be held together by bailing wire in a pinch. It was named for the shark because that was thought to be a bad omen to the Japanese. All the fighter planes had shark’s teeth painted on them because the Japanese were supposedly afraid of sharks. The Flying Tiger was the patch everyone in the 14th Air Force wore and also painted on the fighter planes. "Jiggs" from the "Maggie and Jiggs" comics was the mascot painted on the bomber planes. And everyone in the China Burma India also wore the CBI patch, the sun, star, stripe patch. Everyone had their picture taken next to the "Zero". These pictures of the plane made it past the censor.
