I have very little information on this couple so far, but I hope to learn more someday...
Anton Krivanek was born in Jirina, Bohemia, in January 1847. Maria Hladik was born in Nehvizdy, Bohemia about April 1858. They married about 1877. They had three children while living in Bohemia:
Mary was born in Celakovice, Bohemia, about 14 miles east-northeast of Prague. The villages of Jirina and Nehvizdy are both extremely close to Celakovice.
The Krivanek family immigrated to Baltimore, MD in 1890. They had one more daughter while in Baltimore:
The Twelfth U.S. Census (11 Jun 1900) shows the Krivanek family living at 204 Rose Street in Baltimore. Anton worked as a basket maker; Annie and "Mamie" worked as cigar makers; "Lizzie" was a servant; and "Christinia" was "at school." (I suspect the enumerator misunderstood the nickname "Tinnie" to mean Christinia instead of Antoinette.) Except for "Christinia," all of the others are listed as having been born in Austria, of which Bohemia was indeed part at that time. Anton and Mary are listed as being married for 23 years. At the same address resides a young couple in their twenties, Charles and Elisabeth Strapp. I have no idea if there is any relation.
Maria Hladik Krivanek died in Baltimore on 05 Mar 1905 and was buried in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
Anton Krivanek may have moved out of Baltimore and remarried after Maria's death. She is buried with her daughter and son-in-law -- Elizabeth and August Kozlovsky.
Czech out the Czech Genealogy Research Page. Much information about my Bohemian ancestors was obtained from the St. Wenceslaus church records, on microfilm at the Maryland State Archives.
Bohemia is the western province of the Czech Republic. More information is available from the CIA World Factbook and the U.S. State Department.
If you're done here, you may go back to the Boia Genealogy page.
