Giorgio takes good care of us on the bus.

Karin sings to us on the bus... (or maybe she was just telling us what to expect in the next village...)

We had great views from the bus.

Juanita and Roy (Nebraska and Arizona)
They danced us under table in Montone at the Captain's party.

The best part of being on the bus, we didn’t have to worry about maps, directions, or traffic signals.  We were free to have a drink , relax, move around, and take pictures out the window.  Leave the driving to Giorgio!

The first day on the bus, Steve started a community chocolate cache.  It later expanded to include gum, cookies, and even “pocket coffees”.  Pocket coffees are small, disposal containers filled with espresso… just in case you need a extra “boost”.  Giorgio kept the cooler stocked with water, soft drinks, and even a little beer.

There are many more seats on the bus than people on the tour, so we could spread out and get comfortable.  We moved from side to side to gaze out the windows, forward and back to get to know each other and discuss the days activities.  It also gave us time to get a little rest.

Being on the bus, we even had time to ponder such philosophical questions as, “What’s in Roy’s backpack?”  A better question may have been, “What’s not in Roy’s backpack?”  We never saw Roy without his full sized backpack; he may have even slept with it. (There are no witnesses and Juanita can't be made to testify against her husband).

Karin used some of the bus time to tell us about Italy’s regions, history, culture, and to teach us a little Italian.  Her wealth of experience in both US and Italian culture was one of our biggest assets.  We teased her about being "Princess Karin", but only because "we" put her on a pedestal, not because she acted like royalty.  If you ever get a chance to be on one of Karin's tours, you will be fortunate indeed.

While we didn’t spend a lot of time on the bus, it was an essential element of the tour.  It not only got us from village to village, but it also provided us with an excellent opportunity to get to know others, share experiences, and plan upcoming activities.  Giorgio kept us safe, kept the bus clean, and kept us from getting lost.

Char and Bette (Washington, Oregon)
Char and Bette (sisters-in-law) just came from visiting Char's new grandbaby in Germany.  (aka: The shopaholics)

Cindy and Dave (Indiana and Arizona)
Our hiking buddies in Cinque Terre

The backpack was bigger than Roy.

We said arrivederci (goodbye) to Giorgio and the bus
in Orta San Giulio

From the bus on the way to Ravenna.

Jack and Joan (Denver, CO)
Our closes neighbors and apartment-mates in Montone.

From the bus on the way to Orvieto.

Giorgio packed his bicycle in deep storage so he could get some exercise on the road...

Robin and Nicole (Motto: "Be prepared")  (Washington)
Nicole was even prepared for a morning swim in Loro Ciuffena - Brrrrr...

Paula (Portland, OR) and Marti (Portland, OR)
Check out the shades.  Looking a little Hollywood for Tuscany.

Portofino from the bus (on our way to Orta San Giulio).

Valerie (Houston, TX) and Darla (Washington)
Valerie and Darla became friends on a previous tour and now travel independently-together.

Bonnie and David (Victoria, Canada)
Bonnie and David were our "first" friends and dinner companions on several occasions.  Bonnie encouraged David to draw cards for the Captain and for Karin.  (But... Bonnie may call him incorrigible.)

Paul and Barbara (Maine)  Celebrating 25 years together...
Paul and Barbara were our apartment-mates in Loro Cuiffena.
Either she was tickling him, or he's still laughing about the chocolate...

Wendy and Diane (Washington)
Diane was Cathy's buddy.  Wendy and Diane promised to come visit us when we buy one of the Tuscan villas we say from the bus. (Like there was ever a doubt!)

Apuan Alps from the bus on the way to Carrara.

Jim and Cathy (Colorado)
This is our website.

Hilltown from the bus on the way from Assisi back to Montone.

Here's our typical view of Giorgio.

Steve takes a snooze in the back.

Deana and Steve (San Diego, CA)
Deana and Steve were our other hiking partners on the Cinque Terre trails, and our lunch and dinner companions on several occasions.

Pete and Nancy (Virginia near DC)
A class act - Nancy was a real trooper.
