avarian staff officer who was born in Munich to Colonel Anton Hemmer and Ida née Weißmann. After attending Gymnasium in Regensburg, Hans entered military service in August 1888 as an officer's candidate. The Great War's outbreak saw von Hemmer serving on the general staff of Oskar von Xylander's I. Bavarian Army Corps. By the end of 1914, Hemmer was promoted to serve as Bavarian corps commander Felix Graf von Bothmer's Chief of Staff. He remained as Bothmer's Chief of Staff when the Count received command of the "South Army" in mid-1915, and later remained in that capacity when Bothmer commanded the 19th Field Army. After the War, Ritter von Hemmer served in the Reichswehr with the rank of major general. He died of a heart attack on 15 December 1931 and is buried in Munich.
