Traugott Martin von Sauberzweig
(28.10.1863 - 14.04.1920)
place of birth:
 Greifenberg, Brandenburg
Königreich Preußen:  Gen-Gouv von Belgien,  AOK-Stabschef,  Generalleutnant

Imperial German general who saw action on both Great War fronts as a corps-level and army-level chief of staff. He was awarded the Pour le Merite in 1917 for outstanding leadership as General von Hutier's chief of staff (Eighth Field Army) and their actions at Riga. Sauberzweig was born in 1863 the son of a commoner pastor, but was later brought into the aristocracy. During the War, he functioned as Chief of Staff for commanding generals such as Eichhorn, Hutier, and Gallwitz. Sauberzweig also served as Imperial Germany's Governor General in Brussels, Belgium. It was in this capacity that General von Sauberzweig signed the orders which ultimately had British nurse Edith Cavell executed for her alleged treasonous acts: helping some 200 allied soldiers escape from occupied Belgium.
