Georg Wetzell

eorg Wetzell served for a time as III. Army Corps Chief of Staff subordinate to Fabeck's First Army. He then followed Gerhard Tappen in 1916 as Operations Section Chief with von Hindenburg at German Supreme Army Command (Oberste Heeresleitung). In this function, Wetzell was awarded the Pour le Mérite during the campaign against Italy. He was sent back to the field for the final two months of the War to serve as von der Marwitz' Chief of Staff in the Fifth Army.

After the Great War, Wetzell was the Inspector of Germany's Signal Troops from 1921 to 1926, and then headed of the Reichswehr General Staff. He spent four years in Nanking during the early 1930s as a military advisor in the Chinese armed forces. Wetzell retired from military service with the honorary rank of General der Infanterie.
