Kavallerie Prinz zu Salm-Horstmar served in Kaiser Wilhelm II's military entourage as an adjutant general. His
father was Prince Wilhelm zu Salm-Horstmar and mother was Princess
Elisabeth zu Solms-Rödelheim. The prince saw action during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 as
an ordinance officer fighting under General Herwarth von Bittenfeld,
commander of the Army of the Elbe. He likewise took part in the Franco-
Prussian War of 1870-71 as a squadron commander in the
cavalry. During the Great War, Prinz zu Salm-Horstmar
continued his service in Kaiser Wilhelm II's entourage as General
Adjutant.
