place of birth:  Flensburg  (Schleswig)


German general of artillery who as XX. Corps Commander, served under Field Marshal Hindenburg's Eighth Army on the Eastern Front. His corps played a pivotal role during the Battle of Tannenberg. Scholtz grew up in Ballenstedt, beginning his military career in 1870 at the outset of the Franco-Prussian War.  Von Scholtz died on 30 April in his hometown of Ballenstedt-Harz.
