While living in Bavaria, I had a natural curiosity about the World War Two era. This of course was a touchy issue (a former SS captain was a prominent resident of our little village), but there was opportunity to speak at length with former Wehrmacht soldiers who were neighbors of mine. They had collectively seen action in many of the European fronts and had all been POWs throughout Europe and America. These experiences humanized the German soldier for me and prompted the question: what would I have done as a male villager called upon for national service? I also realized that in order to understand why Germans went to war for AH, I needed to understand the forty years of German history prior to the outbreak of World War Two. Thus a budding interest in World War One and 19th century Prussian history. It is therefore with great respect that this site is dedicated to my soldier friends from Germany who, out of love for their country and a sense of duty, fought the allies during WW2. Despite the fact that their nation's cause at the time was horrific and destructive, they were nonetheless men of personal honor:
