Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Bülow Graf von Dennewitz (16.2.1755 - 25.2.1816) place of birth: Falkenberg (Altmark) Prussian count and general and elder brother of the military theorist Dietrich von Bülow, he was probably Field Marshal von Blücher's most capable lieutenant. Von Bülow was the only commander at that time who never lost a battle. As lieutenant general and divisional commander, he fought at Möckern, Halle, and Grossbeeren; defeated Marshal Oudinot at Luckau (all in 1813). In September of that same year, he repulsed French forces under Marshal Ney at Dennewitz, thus recognized as the savior of Berlin. Serving under Blücher in 1814, he thwarted Napoleon's attack at Laon. In 1815, as general of infantry and IV. Corps commander, his troops led the Prussian effort against Napoleon's right wing at Waterloo. Grand Cross of the Iron Cross: 10.3.1813 |
