Alexander August Wilhelm von Pape
(2.2.1837 - 7.5.1895)
place of birth:  Berlin
Generaloberst m.d.R. GFM:  19 September 1888

Von Pape served in the Imperial Prussian Army and was ultimately given the rank of Colonel General with the rank of Field Marshal. He entered the service in 1830 as a Fahnenjunker in the 2nd Foot Guards Regiment. He eventually became commander of the regiment in 1863 and thus led them into combat during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. He then was in command of the 1st Guard Infantry Division during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, most notably seeing action during the capture of St. Privat-la- Montagne and during the Battle for Sedan.

Following the war years, von Pape was entrusted with the commands of Fifth Corps and later Third Corps, ultimately becoming the Guard Corps commander. In September 1888 he was promoted to Generaloberst m.d.R. Generalfeldmarschall, becoming the commanding general of military forces in the Brandenburg Province, along with being the Governor of Berlin. He died in May of 1895 in his Berlin home. Kaiser Wilhelm I praised von Pape as being "the role model for the traditional Prussian soldier." General-Pape-Straße in Tempelhof is named in his honor.
