Joachim von Amsberg

General von Amsberg served as an Imperial German officer and Army Corps chief of staff during the Great War. Coming from north German nobility, von Amsberg began his military career in 1890 when he joined a Mecklenburg grenadier regiment. In 1912, he was assigned to function as Prince Eitel Friedrich's personal adjutant and continued in this capacity as the Prince led 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß into combat in August 1914. Later during the War, von Amsberg also served as Chief of Staff for the XVth Army Corps, and in November 1918 was VIIth Corps Chief of Staff when he led those troops back home to Germany for demobilization.
