(26.08.1869 - 05.09.1945)
place of birth:  Schwerin
Königreich Preußen:  Oberstleutnant

General von Amsberg served as an Imperial German officer and Army Corps chief of staff during the Great War. Coming from north German nobility, von Amsberg began his military career in 1890 when he joined a Mecklenburg grenadier regiment. In 1912, he was assigned to function as Prince Eitel Friedrich's personal adjutant and continued in this capacity as the Prince led 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß into combat in August 1914. Later during the War, von Amsberg also served as Chief of Staff for the XV. Army Corps, and in November 1918 was VII. Army Corps Chief of Staff when he led those troops back home to Germany for demobilization.

Following the Great War years, von Amsberg remained a part of Germany's reformed military force, the Reichswehr, and was promoted up to Generalleutnant in 1927. In September 1929, he received the brevet rank of General der Infanterie as he retired from active military service. Although he made himself available for military duties in 1938, at the age of 69, he was not recalled. General von Amsberg passed away in 1945 in Rostock.
